With lyrics by Salah Haj Sa'eed, "The Noble Sadness" is one of Sudan's most acclaimed love songs and is often considered beloved singer Mustafa Seed Ahmad's masterpiece.

وبقيت اغني عليك غناوي الحسرة والأسف الطويل,
And I’ve begun singing songs of heartbreak and long-held sorrow over you,
وعشان اجيب ليك الفرح
And to bring you happiness,,
رضيان مشيت للمستحيل,
I happily did the impossible,
ومعاكي في آخر المدى,
I’m with you until the end of time,
فتيني يا هجعة مواعيدي القبيل,

بعتيني لي حضن الاسى,
You sold me to the embrace of grief,
وسبتيني للحزن النبيل.
And you left me to the noble sadness.
ومشيت معاك كل الخطاوي الممكنة وبقدر عليها وبعرفها,
I took every step with you, every step I was able to take, every step I knew,
اوفيت وما قصرت في حقك,
I was loyal, and did not deprive you of anything,
ولا كان عرفة غيرك اصادفها.
I never met with anyone but you, not even by accident,
وقدر هواكي يجيبني ليك,
The power of your love would bring me to you,
جمَّع قلوبنا وألفها
It would collect our hearts together and make them comfortable alongside each other
وقتين بقيتي معايا,
Until we became one
في اعماقي في اعماق مشاعري المرهفة.
In the depths [of my soul], in the depths of my most delicate emotions.
لامنك ابتدت الظروف,
You weren’t the one who created these circumstances,
لا بيكي انتهت الاماني المترفة.
Nor were you the one who ended that time of hope.
ندمان انا؟
Do I regret it?
ندمان انا؟ ابداً! وحاتك عمري ما شلت الندم.
Do I regret it? Never! And I promise you, I’ve never once felt regret,
ما اصله حال الدنيا تسرق منية في لحظة عشم.
It’s just what life does: it dashes hopes in a moment of optimism.
وانا عندي ليك كان الفرح رغم احتمالي اساكي يا جرح الألم.
All I felt for you was happiness, despite the fact that I still felt the pain you caused me, you open wound.
كان خوفي منك جاي من لهفة خطاكي على المواعيد الوهم.
My fear of you was rooted in a [fear] that I’d delude myself and wait for you to come to me on an imagined date.
اهو نحنا في الاخر سوا باعنا الهوى وماشين على سكة عدم.
But in the end, that’s us: we’re together, now having sold our love, walking down a path of nothingness.
