I’ve always had a fuzzy picture of the North African campaign before Operation Torch, I had no idea that up until then it was almost completely fighting back and forth over the same 600 or so miles of Libyan and Egyptian coast.

My grandfather was part of the Desert Rats doing recon missions behind enemy lines, calling in air strikes to their position before quickly getting out of there probably in their armoured vehicle. Miraculously doing this the entire war no one in his recon-squad were injured or killed. His name was Cyril.

Thats because there wasnt any nazi presence in most of western north africa, only in the major cities, whcih the Allies captured easily since only the vichy french were defending them and they switched sides Also most of the territory they “teleported to” was automatically captured since its wasteland desert and nobody has any control there

By that token he should have also added the Indians, New Zealanders, South Africans, Czechoslovaks etc. It's fine to represent them all as under the UK. The Western Desert Force, XIII Corps and VIII Army were all British formations after all.
