Yo I'm happy you spoke so positively of Ryan Higa (and his buddies who've always helped out with his vids of course - that's why i'm gonna be using plural). This might sound crazy, considering the sub count adn the views, but nigahiga has always seemed kinda underrated as a channel to me. Their oldest skits were always really high effort for that era of youtube and ever since getting big, they've always put a lot of work into increasing the quality of their videos and have always strived to do new and creative shit (most of those other channels tended to just stick to the things that worked or chased trends when people got tired of the old formulas). But it always seems like people just never talk or discuss the channel all that much as an important part of early youtube. Smosh, Fred, RWJ, Pewdiepie to an extent, fucking Shane Dawson... all creators who still have an ironic memedom or get hour long retrospectives/exposes made about them, but nigahiga has just always been... there without any particularly vocal fan/hate following. You don't really get those massive multi-million view videos made about Ryan Higa or the people who work with him these days, but no one has ever had anything other than praise for their content. It's weird. I wonder if he just managed to hit a slightly more mature demographic in his early days that just doesn't really have a huge interest in youtube nowadays or have outgrown it. I'd actually recommend checking out some of their stuff from the last few years. It's one of those channels where I've never been immediately interested in the video after seeing the title/thumbnail, but whenever I got bored and decided to check them out, they would always end up being pretty entertaining, creative, well-performed and well-edited. Like, most of those vintage youtubers' catalogue is chock full of badly aged, cringy and inter-changeable shit that has 0 value to rewatch nowadays, but a ton of nigahiga's stuff holds up relatively well.
