I wonder how he did the lighting in the shot with the girl getting kissed in the restaurant. Does anybody know?
@Fairychild4325 жыл бұрын
@@everettfanor1989 you can see there is a bright light in the upper right corner. It could be a Street light, or the places own interior light. I doubt it, but it could be a setup used by the photographer. I said street light first because it's so bright casting that shadow on the wall. I wish I knew too...
@Fairychild4325 жыл бұрын
@@everettfanor1989 yea it looks like the places outside lights, that restaurant have to light up the sidewalk, those are lighting up the inside as well. Plus with their normal interior lights as you can see in the reflection.

How do you feel about the photos conceptually? What do you think he’s trying communicate with his work? I think they’re beautiful photos but really lack substance. All of the greatest photographers were and are making photos of their time. I feel like the “vibe” he’s trying to create would be more impactful and say a lot more if they were made in a modern environment instead of trying to recreate the past.

Nostalgia porn. Haven't heard that term before, but it seems on-point. Eggleston's work is very similar in some ways. Nice to hear his perspective.

This guy has some incredible ideas to share. "I think what a lot of photographers need to do is just, follow your eye. You'll start to learn what you like and how you frame thing what what you're going for, and then you naturally just hone in on that." What awesome advice. I am going to try shooting like this for a while to see what my eye creates for me instead of trying to shoot with something in mind. Thanks for making this Willem! I loved it!

This guy literally speaks on a level that matches my mindset of photography since I started 13 years ago! He knows what he’s doing

He's literally describing the exact same love I have of photography, just capturing that one specific place that you may stumble upon randomly that just seems like THE place. And then having that feeling/memory physically with you. Definitely checking his work out from now on, thank you Willem for the introduction!

Some fantastic photographs. Interesting that he shoots the mundane near him, but the style seems to me much more aligned with 'Americana' (I guess the American artists were doing the same). Even the light somehow doesn't feel English. He certainly succeeded in telling stories. ─ This was a great video, Willem, a clean and well edited interview, looking forward to more.
@MS55 жыл бұрын
@Bobby Brady Is that so? I thought the whole point of the project was his portrait of England (but he did grow up abroad, which can explain the eye and style, based on what he says).

Some of his photos really remind me of an Edward Hopper painting. Evokes some of the same emotion of nostalgia and that «quiet contemplation» feeling. Great stuff
@henryhernandez88684 жыл бұрын
Thank you not a lot of young photographers don't notice the things around them maybe because they don't understand it in a deeper level or just are shooting for certain outcomes, you don't have to travel to overseas places to get a good meaningful or eye appealing image. Most of the photos you've taken you have already envision in your mind, which come from things that you see on a daily. You're the first to look at the photo you've taken so the main audience is always you, the picture reaches out to you then you share your emotions in a frame to others.
