When selling or developing vacant land in fill land parcels, it is quite common to run into opposition with neighboring property owners. This video is about Not In My Back Yard (NIMBY)!! Neighbors fight proposed residential development. The acronym NIMBY for not in my back yard. In an established neighborhood, when a vacant land parcel is surrounded by many existing homeowners, they typically adopt that privately owned property as their private retreat, recreation are, and park. In many instances, these land parcels are home to mature trees, a variety of birds, and other wildlife, creating a natural oasis in the midst of suburban life.
It is very common that neighboring homeowners often protest against the proposed development. It can be a very emotional process for the homeowners and can be an expensive proposition for the developer due to legal and engineering costs. There is always a negotiation process that goes on before final development plans are determined.
