I was married to Joe Mayer, the bass player and leader of group from 1977 to 2000. The group started in 1942 and actually did 25 Ed Sullivan Shows, and 25 Arthur Godfrey shows. The 3 movies are correct. There is a musical group out there that calls themselves the Novelites, but they are not the same. The name was actually supposed to be called THE NOV-ELITES ... because Joe felt they were the elite of novelty groups. Well, you know what happened to the hyphen!!! They were a mainstay of the Nevada circuit for many years and their home base was at the Stardust Hotel for many years. They were also Martha Raye's opening act at her club in Miami Beach and traveled with her for several years. Joe and Martha were lifelong friends. The country comedy sketch you see here is just one of many different routines they used to do.

The man on the right, Chuck Leonard, is my dad. Sadly he passed away on Tuesday, 4/7/20. Frankie passed away in 85, and Joe passed away about 5 years ago. They are in heaven reunited once again. Izzy, Thank you for posting this, I will forever cherish it

lindaangeline hi there...I believe I am your cousin. You dad chuck, is my grandfathers, Charlie’s (Charles, Chuck, chalie ) ‘Ancelo’ cousin. My mother and I were just speaking tonight of his passing. I have fond memories, of my grand father playing your dads, cassette tape in his truck. It was in the name of chuck angeline. He is a beautiful singer! I’ve been digging to find things with his 🎵 music. I’ve only came across one so far. I’m happy I was able to find a video of him to connect the pieces! If you’d like you can email me or my mother...she would be thrilled to connect. We are doing a family tree. Mine is jdimarcello@yahoo.com and moms is elaineancelo@gmail.com... nice to meet you! And you and your family are in my prayers! ❤️❤️ edit...if you could somehow send some of his songs, I’d love that!

My first time hearing this. The Salsoul Orchestra directed me to finding this song. Very nice and classic. ❤

Happy to see this - I also found out they were in 2 other movies and on Ed Sullivan 3 times - The Bellboy (1960), Jitter Bughouse (1948) and I Surrender Dear (1948). Joe Mayer would visit our neighbors with his wife Ginny in the early 50's

These guys had a great act, the kind you don't see anymore. They also recorded a record album at some point, according to the liner notes Joe Mayer just set up a tape recorder backstage, turned it on, and got onstage. Joe really kicks on the slap bass. The whole group should be much better known.
