When (and if) I get to Heaven, I want to perform this ballet with the same skill and elegance of these talented dancers. So beautiful!

@airachica...When Tchaikovsky wrote the Nutcracker suite, the different dances in the "Land of the Sweets" were written to connect each Country with a delicacy: * Spanish Dance: Chocolate * Arabian Dance: Coffee * Chinese Dance: Tea * Russian Dance: Candy Canes * Mother Ginger: Bon-bons * Reed Flutes: Marzipan * Waltz of the Flowers * Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy It was a pretty sophisticated form of assimilation for the era it was written =)

WOW! All the other nutcrackers i've seen and danced in cannot compare to this arabian. This choreography truly grasps the sexyness of the music. I wish I could see their faces!

I have to say ive seen a lot of arabian dances and im usually very disappointed. They dont have a true awe to them, but this one really captures the music with their dance and every gesture. Its sensual , flexible, and with beautiful lines like arabic dances should be.

@airachica May I ask why ballet, and Arabian style clothing do not mix?? Ballet is about a choreographer taking music, and bringing it to life, and if I was Tchaikovsky I would be proud of ALL of the different interpretations that have been made out of the suite...if you had to choreograph "Flight of the bumblebee" would you put your dancers in horsefly costumes?? I didn't think so SMDH

I saw the "Arab Dance" in hundreds of versions. This is without doubt one of the best. A touch of only slightly indicated erotic touch the viewer goes under the skin, the movements flow into one another - just great. Had a better backdrop but deserves one anyway only focuses on the marvelous pair of dancers.

Of all the "chocolate" arabic dances from the nutcracker this is one of my top favorites if not my favorite!

@muneca2132336 Let me be honest, I don't know much about ballet and it's not one of my hobbies. But when I think about ballet I think of france, england, russia or such cultures. I am NOT saying that arabians shouldn't or can't dance ballet, not at all.

this is what it's from, airachica, the variations section of The Nutcracker...it's a very famous section, usually danced in 'arabian' costuming

Ballet can be done in street clothes nowadays. This is also one of the most famous ballets in ballet history, and this part has ALWAYS been performed in Arabian clothes. Just for future reference.

it's not that they aren't good, but it looks a bit weird... ballet in aabian clothes? you know, typical arabian clothes, it doesn't quite match. however, they are really talented
@muneca213233614 жыл бұрын
@airachica well THIS is closer than Barbie lol ;-)
I too have seen the Arab Dance in hundreds of variations. And this one is doubtless the most off-key and absurd (and more than a little creepy) versions ever. And as for the "erotic" touches they make me want to jump out my skin and flee the theater. By the way couldn't they have found a slightly less grotesque third-world representative (nice hear cut by the way) to slouch around the stage--they must be a dime a dozen. NB I think I'll stick with the (slightly less hip, but infinitely better educated) companies such as the Mariinsky, the Bolshoi or even the Moskva ballet.
@celticeyesmorriganrising9298 жыл бұрын
I second your opinion, there is nothing Arabian or dreamy about it, yes it is erotic, its eroticism is clumsy at best. MY FAVORITE IS WENDY WHELANS INTERPRETATION.
@robbygirl78637 жыл бұрын
Not too many people share your opinion
@LuisaFernandaGonzalez22057 жыл бұрын
To be honest I don't see anything grotesque in this, I actually enjoy the fact that they added an erotic touch to the variation because the music is very slow and sexy, and still delicate. Actually, if you watch "the taming of the shrew" BY THE BOLSHOI BALLET there is A LOT of sex, and its very agresive and strong, and it still will be beautiful. There is nothing wrong with making an allusion to sex. By the way, saying saying "third-world representative" is quite offensive.
@robbygirl78637 жыл бұрын
I agree about the "third world" comment being offensive, really didn't understand that. Anyway I just recently saw the Moscow Ballet perform the Nutcracker (DEC 2016) and the dance was ALMOST identical to this one. Apparently the choreographer of some of the best dancers in the world was inspired by this piece.
