Happy Birthday to Eddie Levert, longtime member and co-lead singer of the legendary O'Jays, born June 16th, 1942. On June 16, 2024 he celebrated his 82nd birthday. By any measure, the O'Jays are one of the most important Soul Music groups of all-time. Whether delivering funky dance music, romantic ballads, or thoughtful social commentary in song

I am a 62 year old white man grew up in the South. My childhood in summer was get up early on Saturday do any chores I needed to do then watch Soul Train on my tiny black and white TV. After Soul Train ended it was time for Baseball Game of The Week, I grew up dirt poor had nothing but great great memories from the entire decade of the 1970s. It was an interesting decade to be a kid in. Not perfect by any stretch but we had great music from all genre. I wouldnt trade it for anything.

The band played this at my son's wedding in Jupiter Florida - lot of colors and different religious beliefs but a wonderful time and "City Lights" sang this as the last song and we formed a line holding each other at the waist and danced around "Admiral's Cove" and showed how united all people could be. Ironically, my son's best friend was pretty much a racist and he actually led the "Love Train!"

@Pgmcos Yes my brother some of my earliest music memories were of Soul Train. Look, how COOL was Don Cornelius!? I mean his voice, the way he interacted with the cast dancers, the talent, camera, and don't forget those suits! I watched it in Black and White too. I had an African America bud that I had a deal with. You watch The Midnight Special and Don Kirchner's Rock concert and I'd watch Soul Train and we will talk. We discovered that music is what make us human and we got to better friends and found out about each other even more, it was the best. Be well and safe peace to you and yours. Peace, love and SOUL, rock on brothers and sisters.

Yeah my brother I like to call that "pay it forward". We are here as individual people, but we are all connected together because we are human beings! We aren't really all that different. Different hair types, skin tone, and various types of eyes and other features but basically the same. For the most part a lot of the parts are interchangeable and sort of look the same. Its our own species that for some reason wants to put others in special "boxes" so they can find reasons not to like them. I for one have never understood that. My folks brought me up to respect everyone. Mom said " you don't have to like everyone, but, you have to respect them for what the are, different". Now she finished with "you might find that there are some people that you can't stand, or they want to hurt you, defend yourself if you have to, and then get away from them, they aren't worth your time" Be well and safe peace to you and yours.

👍Yes, it was fun. Gerald was always organizing us kids into a singing group. 😂 We would prepare “shows”, practice and then perform for our parents before the night was over. It was fun. Sometimes we’d be over their house and Mr. Eddy would come home (we knew he was a famous singer but it was still a mystery to us kids 😂). He was there but not there. Sometimes he’d speak to everyone and retreat to his room to chill until everyone left. One thing I definitely remember is there was always good food and laughter in their house. Their mom Shirley was always so kind to everyone. He kids absolutely loved & adored her. They were good people. 😢💝

Man , im 59 years old and this song actually made me cry, just thinking of how beautiful music and the world were back then, I miss them years so much, if only people were not so damn lazy wanting everything done for them, technology ruined us , if you don’t believe me just look at how simple the 60 70 and 80’s were, the mid nineties is when things began to get ugly, starting with Windows and the internet. I don’t even feel like living anymore because the world is so ugly and the years go by like a month used to , I miss the OJ’s

You have to stop living in the past, and experience new things and maybe possibly connect with the things you hate, maybe you will find joy in your life. Of course everything is nostalgic but that doesnt mean you should be stuck in the past and not continue your present. Dont push yourself back 👍🏿
