I also know John. Since 1975 when I first worked with him. A very colorful character and commentator on the human condition !

I always enjoyed Connor’s writing in the magazines. I just picked up the book, and it doesn’t disappoint. Thanks for the heads up.

I most definitely got the Combat Vet and Street Cop vibe from his writing. The man has been there and done that and is unapologetic about it. I thoroughly respect that. Some of his articles ran right into a couple of things I had done, been involved in and brought memories back. A couple of them I really didn't want to remember. I'm getting his books and I hope the proceeds find their way to him and Memsaheeb. Enjoy retirement John.

Thanks Tanker. It’s always good to re-read some of the stories. Because they’re mostly not stories … Roy

I never met John but I have been a few places and reading his stuff was like sitting down with a friend over an adult beverage.

I bought all the books, both John's, Roy"s, and Duke's. I'm done with some, read some twice. Been there done that but not at that level. I loved his columns and his writing. I knew folks like that myself. Funny thing, being in Marine Aviation, Will reminds me of things I did and the people I knew as well.

Thanks, first off, James. And I think people need to be exposed to the military or police work or firefighting, or a hospital ER to really learn what goes on, eh? Roy

Yup, after my first career I started my second. Twenty plus in LE. From dispatch, to Patrol, to Criminal Records. I served with members of all branches from various NATO countries and made lifelong friends. In LE and as an EMT I met characters most would never imagine. The dark humor we use is our way of coping with the darkness we see.

It’s been years since I’ve read a magazine - thank you internet! - but Connor’s columns always had me laughing. If it wasn’t the tale itself, it was his inimitable turn of a word or phrase.

I'm still reading Roy's 'Bedside Reader,.' Shouldn't rush a good thing, savor it. And I have read the Diaries - and it's still on my shelf. Another one to get and savor, I am sure.

Great show, thanks. I picked up Gun Crank Diaries a couple years ago, read it cover to cover, really good read. I got your book Roy and I like it and the format. With that format I can pick it up and read through a few short articles at a time, good job. Now to get "Odd Angry Shot".

One of his columns was on "why does everyone bother me at the range and want me to train them" or there about. Cause we don't have an uncle John. My father taught me to be accurate and safe on a flat range, but his experience did not cover when they fire back. So we read the columns by John Connor for that.

I THOUGHT I was going to beat Conner and Roy's desert shooting story.....THOUGHT.😢 My Dad, his brothers, their dad, some close life-long friends and I were elk hunting. We camped in a narrow draw with a creek in the bottom, FANTASTIC camp spot and many people liked it. The camp next door would walk up every night and we'd reminisce about the day's adventures. One night someone had shot a bull. We stuck the head in the crotch of a tree about head high by the fire, just at the edge of the light. He was wearing sunglasses and one of my Grandpa's Swisher Sweet cigar stubs in his mouth. They came up for that evening's meeting. One of them asked, "any luck today boys?" My uncle answered, in a very COOL 😎 way, "well, he wasn't too lucky" and gestured over his shoulder. We always stayed for the entire 5 day season and broke camp on the last day. Most people left on Sunday, the final day. Well this other camp was of the same mind as us and was doing likewise. Appearantly they thought that the easiest way to unload their elk rifles was to just shoot them empty, as a way to impress us. The rest of our camp isn't QUITE as gun nutz as I am but EVERYONE had atleast two rifles, because one is none and two is one. Most also had a handgun as well and a couple of repeating shotguns. Personally, I take an arsenal in my truck. There's a rock pit close by and I would go off and shoot/plink for fun before season. I IMMEDIATELY decided to put these upstarts in their place. They got off about 20-25 rounds, it was pretty impressive and I'm sure they were quite proud of their accomplishment......for about 15 minutes. We loaded EVERY firearm we had to full capacity. So around 18 hunting rifles with 4-6 rounds each, about 5 handguns, mostly revolvers and then my PILE. I devised a plan, shoot your own rifles empty, then your handguns and shotguns.....then grab from my pile if you know how to use it. I don't know how long our volley lasted but I do remember I calculated the shots fired and I think it was just under 500 rounds including all of my spare magazines.....fully loaded. 22, 9mm, 357, 45 Colt, 44 Mag, 45 ACP, 223, 7.62X39, 270, 270 Wby, 30-06, 7mm Mag, 300 Win., 338, 340 Wby., and 458 Win. Mag. It was QUITE IMPRESSIVE if I do say so myself. Probably the most satisfying expenditure of vast amounts of ammunition of my life, to this day. (WE DID NOT JUST SHOOT THEM INTO THE AIR BTW). However, we had no artillery simulation rounds.😢 Two years later, both hunting groups drew tags again. They visited the camp the first night and we commented that we were surprised they camped by us again. One of the older guys replied, "the camp next to you guys is the safest place in the @0D da^^ WORLD!!!

Loved listening to things we didnt know about Mr. Connor. You think maybe they took DNA from Elmer Keith , Jack O'Connor , Jeff Cooper & Superman to create John Conner? New head of the ATF maybe - he would stir things up 👍😂. Thanks guys. Nice job.🙏👍
