You have a great approach. I am a bit rough around the edges, somewhat backwoods, and having grown up in West virginia, I'm a bit 'old school off grid'. Your approachability will reach people who don't want to watch the grizzly bear type guys!, or the 'shock jock' type, the 'world's going to end' or fear monger 'prepper' guys.. Keep it up man!!

Huge fan of what you all are doing. I grew up fully off grid back at a time where you were lucky to have a 20W solar panel and a lead acid car battery for your lights. At the time I wouldn't have wished it on anybody. Nowadays it can be done so much better and you guys have done a great job showing how to do it right. Keep up the amazing work!

Awesome to see these concepts so clearly explained. I share the vision and I'm currently gearing up to create a small, ultra-affordable ecovillage using a similar structure. I want to include the local native population in the design process, their knowledge of how to survive in and care for this particular location is second to none. Luckily my country doesn't have overly restrictive regulations (yet), the climate is very hospitable and the natural resources are outstandingly abundant. It's gonna be a huge privilege to protect this land and all the life it harbors.

@ScottFoust
@ScottFoust 3 ай бұрын
@@Bornstellar071 I'm no authority on the subject but like to think of it as a rebellion against the corporate capture of everything needed to just live. Sustainable community living using solar and wind for power with low impact technologies. Everything factory farming is not.

@ourmobilehomemakeover662 3 ай бұрын
Solarpunk is more of an aesthetic than anything else, but it is growing into a movement. It’s a vision of a people-centered, sustainable life that utilizes technology like solar and wind power to create nurturing communities. There’s a lot of overlap with permaculture, walkability, socialist, and anarchist movements.

Hi, I’m only 5 minutes until the vid, so maybe you touch on this later, but I’m wondering how much money a person has to raise to get off-grid going? Everything is expensive. I’m looking to buy a couple acres and build an eco-friendly home but even one acre with a broken down unlivable house is an expensive proposition. What have other people done? Edit: he mentioned buying land for a few thousand dollars. Is he talking about in the USA?? In my area in Western PA, I can’t find anything less than 200K.
@acornlandlabs
@acornlandlabs 3 ай бұрын
Land is at all time highs right now. We purchased 7 acres in Georgia for 35k a few years ago. Land prices will crash again, it might take a few years. Land in the northeast is some of the most expensive. The south, Midwest and west are more affordable. Cheap land can be found in the USA, you just have to be willing to go there. To begin your offgrid journey all you need is a car and a camper trailer. $10k and a determined person can get going and save and build as you go. I’d strongly consider finding an eco village to buy land in. Our Acorn Land Lab is on 1/4 acre that cost 22k. The larger 7 acre site was 35k. All you need is 1/4 - 2 acres to do almost anything you’d care to. 7 acres is more than we’d ever use frankly. A tiny garden alone can keep you very very busy. The biggest win is making a debt-free home. Whether that’s a tiny home, camper, cabin, etc. People think they need 20+ acres when 1/2 an acre can be amazing too

I wouldn't say methane is a clean burning fuel. After all, natural gas is mostly methane. Methane is just carbon neutral if it comes from our waste, which should be called Biomethane. Terminology is important when debating with fossil fuel advocates because their only recourse is to nitpick (e.g. Climate Change vs. Anthropogenic Climate Change).

Most people can not handle going off grid. I have yet to see a off grid yt channel that is off grid I I've been off grid for 12 years. But you have to have a independent spirit to be a real offgrider. If you have to have the latest iPhone or. New vehical. If you don't fix everything yourself Off grid is not for you. That doesn't mean you can't be on grid in a rural setting. I would love to have a off grid neighbor that we help each other out But all I get are lowlife garbage. That comes. Make a mess. Then leave because it's too hard for them. Heck, I would even tell someone that is willing to trade helping each other. How to get FREE LAND. Of 10-20 acres. Reply for more info.
@IvanhoeWolfe-zn6fc
@IvanhoeWolfe-zn6fc 3 ай бұрын
Oh my harshness to YT Channels off grid. They make fairy tails. You are not going to one day be on your land and the next have a $50,000 tractor. Or making 1O0k from a new YT channel. You are going to scratch by for a couple years. While you build up. Then over time things get better. Every person I meet that tries . Won't trade work. Won't listen And leaves in the middle of the night without notice. Yes there are plenty of ways to make money off grid. Yes you can do it in debt or with $1000 to your name. If in debt.....HEY YOU ARE GOING OFF GRID.... F THEM. No really, how are they going to get one cent from you if you are off grid? They are going to repo your vehical. Really? Lol. $1000 to any repoer that can get to a vehicle on my land. You will have to provide the vehicle. Because I really don't have one to repo. But my point is you won't find it. Yes something like On star you can find close to where it's at. But you are not getting to it. Other bills. What are they going to do? Mail a bill to your last location? Heck I've had a 911 address for 12 years here and I can't get anyone to deliver a package. So do you really think someone can get money from you? I spent 8 years trying to get money lowlifes owed me. If a person has no money and makes no money. You can not get anything from them. They also don't have income tax to pay. No income, no income tax. Back to it. You can start with very little money. It's just takes a lot of work. If someone contacts me.. and is in El Paso Texas by October 1st 2024. I will tell you how to get 10-20 acres for free. The catch. You have to be willing to help me at times and in reward I will help you at time. That's it. Now. If you have done that. and give me a month of your time. I will give you a camper a tank to hold 250 or more gallons of water. A shovel and other tools . And feed you for the month Worse case. You find off grid isn't for you. Now if anyone takes me up on this. I will tell you things you SHOULD have But I will accept a person in flip flops shorts and, T-shirt coming in on a Greyhound. No drugs. We go through a check point that has drug dogs. Myself. I could care less. And I don't care who you are, your sex, the sex you like, your skin color / race. All I care is you help. You do NOT preach, can speak English and are legal to be in the US. If you are Frank and tell me you are or to call you Tom. You are Tom to me. Again I just don't care. If you tell me an age. You are that age. Want a Fresh start? Ok. But if you truely want a fresh start. Then give me your new name And tell me you are a fresh start. Leave everything electronic before we leave El Paso. Bring your id. Just in case you need for check point. But if you don't look to be a illegal you should be ok. Once at my place. I will give you a shove. And you can bury your id in case you change your mind. I don't care who you are. On the run or running from someone. That none of my business. In my mind you are just looking for a new start. All I ask is don't BS me.

Homesteading to the point of being able to trade resources with your neighbors is my dream. When I was younger, my grandma would tell me stories about how her and her neighbors would trade livestock and and crop with eachother. Or how they'd even trade that stuff for services like mechanical help. I live in Phoenix right now, but my best friend and I hope to move out of here someday and create a life like that.
@IvanhoeWolfe-zn6fc
@IvanhoeWolfe-zn6fc 2 ай бұрын
@oliverpickering5066 Caution low on caffeine so may have missed something. There I'd a big difference between homesteading and off gridding. Though off grid should include homesteading As for trading for goods; Not many do that today. I'm very much for it. But many only trade in currency. Even in the 80s it wasn't common. But today it feels like it just don't happen. Also watch it. Some save con artist use it as a way to steal Example. .. I had this old truck. Someone was to cut down a tree next to my house for it. They went and stole it. ( hot wired it) When I reported it. The cops did nothing I went to recover it and got arrested. He never did cut the tree down. Oh 2 weeks later he pulled the engine and trans . And took it in first scrap. 20 years later I still have the title in my name. I sold the place. And the house bunt down and that bloody tree is still standing. Lol. Oh and a month after he stole it. He moved. To this day, I still don't understand how; I could be arrested for recovering a vehicle in my name that I was " never paid for". Best I could make out was... Because it was payment for a job. He was entitled to it. EVENTHOUGH he never did the job. He did however before stealing it. Remove ONE branch from the tree.
