Sargeras wants to destroy all life in the universe so the Old Gods have nothing to live off from and die. Sargeras sees the creatures of the Twisting Nether as the best tool for this and creates the Burning Legion to eventually starve the Old Gods and hit the reset button on the universe. When Sargeras ran into resistance on Azeroth, he created the Lich King from the soul of Ner'zhul. The Lich King's goal was to amass a scourge army to weaken the defenses on Azeroth so the Burning Legion can successfully invade. The Old Gods sees the Burning Legion, the Lich King, and the scourge as threats to their existence. So manipulating the Champions of Azeroth to come to Northrend and fight back against the Lich King and his scourge army was exactly what the Old Gods had planned.

If you think about it for a few seconds, everything in this game happens because of the Old Gods. Burning Crusade - Illidan fighting Sargeras, who wants to wipe out all life bc of the Old Gods, Wrath of the Lich King - Sargeras’ idea to be undead, Cataclysm - Deathwing was one of the largest projects of the Old Gods. MoP - Heart of Y’Shaaj for Garrosh, Legion - Sargeras’ expansion and BfA, which I don’t want to talk about anything related to the old gods for that was just upsetting what happened

The darkness was probably Yogg-Saron's shadowy essence surrounding his fabricated projection of King Terenas Menethil. Shortly afterward, he tells Tirion and Bolvar that there must always be a Lich King. But what if that's just a fallacy designed to enlist a new Lich King as an insurance policy to make sure Yogg-Saron still has a puppet to serve as his proxy agent?

Well, consider this: We know from the Legion pre-launch event that Yogg is still around in Ulduar. Yogg has proven to project himself like he did with Sara in Ulduar. ICC and the Lich King's armor are constructed from Saronite (i.e. the blood of Yogg himself). The fact that they chose for King Terenas to echo the same phrase of "No king rules forever" in the official Lich King defeat cinematic, no less, is some very strong foreshadowing. Say what you will about Blizzard's content releasing schedule, class/spec balancing, etc. but they have a detailed, long-term mindset when it comes to the story. Upon Yogg's defeat, he alludes to Azeroth containing a Titan soul by referring to it as a "Miserable seedling". Try to think of the universe as a giant struggle between Light and Void, with Azeroth vs. The Burning Legion vs. The Old Gods as their retainers in a 3-way struggle.

I don't know much about warcraft lore, but when I heard about the old gods, I thought it sounded real cool. So it bummed me out severely when I found out that theses ridiculously powerful and ancient deities could actually be defeated by puny playable characters.
@LoreWhore8 жыл бұрын
+Phatnaru0002 Yeah, that can be the problem with eldritch horrors in video games sometimes. They seem so massive and cool until you're the guy pointing an arrow at Cthulhu. Even if he was weakened 10,000 years ago by gods. +Nedim Lerzan Hallaçlı probably has the right idea though, it softens the blow to their image a little if you think of us as just sort of tickling a small, surfaced part of their already weakened physical form.

+Lore Whore i think as we progress through WoW we become more powerful. weve defeated a demon hunter, a king of endless undead. a small but powerful portion of an old god. a dragon aspect that could tear the world apart. an orc infused with the powers of an old god. and some other orcs too. not to mention archimonde. a demon so powerful that it could have obliterated azeroth and draenor then and there. but we stopped and defeated the lieutenant of sargeras. i think what blizzard is trying to do is show that slowly, through experience the player becomes more powerful with each monster slain. maybe in a few expansions or so we might be able to challenge more portions of old gods. till the inevitable release of the old gods (hinted at illidans vision in his lore book). dont know how long it is but im already excited for it.

The old gods are actually not the most powerful creatures. Let's not forget that they were created by the void lords. Void lords/gods and Sargeras are most likely the most powerful beings.

Sargeras is but a lonely titan, meanwhile the Void Lords are the Warcraft universes equivalent of the Outer Gods of Lovecraftian lore. Beings that we know have existed since the beginning of time itself and ruled primordial universes in times immemoriam but likely have existed before and likely will continue to exist after the end of time itself.

I don't think it's mentioned Yogg Saron had a hand in King Llane's assassination or with the Lich King. He seemed to use the assassination as an example of our conflicts, and gloated about how he benefits from those conflicts. He just spoke about the Lich King really, didn't give any connection between him and the Scourge. Yogg Saron has said useful bits of information since, the puzzle box tells us Xavius is still around (Though he is very cryptic about it.)
@andrewroncallo13367 жыл бұрын
Justin Carson to be fair, the old gods are why the scourge exist.In fact, the reason why every atrocity exists in WoW's universe. The void lords created the old gods. Tbe old gods played a part in Sargeras' madness, which created the burning legion. The burning legion corrupted the eredar people, created the first warlocks, Kil'Jeadan and Archimonde. These two both plagued and manipulated the mortals of Draenor, to search and destroy the Draenei. Eventually they killed the planet, but before that they had their sights on Azeroth, which had been tainted by the void lords and their old God creations. For this reason Sargeras contacted Azshara and the highborne. When the invasion failed, they made an enemy of the legion. This was the reason for the first war between humans and orcs. Their battle than grew into the war between the Alliance and Horde, which grew with the inclusion of the other races of Azeroth. While these races fought their petty war, the legion manipulated things from the shadows, one such individual was Ner'Zhul, the original lich, who had created the scourge. So ues, if you think back to the issue that created the scourge in the first place, it was the old gods that had been the cause the entire time. Yogg'Saron did have a part to play, because he and the old gods are the very reason all these wars were fought. It's sort of like a domino effect, one that I personally think the void lords had tipped off, to hasten the end of all life in the universe.
@melonman65227 жыл бұрын
Well sure, but why not then blame the Titans too if we're going to go to ridiculous lengths? After all if they didn't create vrykuls and the orcs there would be no first war, or second war, or third war there'd be no Garona or Llane, or Arthas or Ner'zhul to become the Lich King and no human corpses to form the army of the Scourge or the orcs of the Old Horde. In fact if not for the Titans the Old Gods wouldn't have a reason since the Black Empire wouldn't have fallen. So since we are basing things on mental gymnastics the Titans did it. In summary think before you try to be smug. It could end up blowing up in your face. Edit; Also it was the Void Lords who contributed to Sargeras' madness. So your absurd blaming via chain of events kinda crumbles.
@andrewroncallo13367 жыл бұрын
Justin Carson yes I mentioned the void lords, and how they created the old gods. It's because they created the old gods that Sargeras fell to madness and despair. Plus, to be accurate, the titans were responsible for the creation of humans, dwarves, and gnomes. The vrykul were also beings created by the titans, and were afflicted with the curse of flesh. A lot of things on Azeroth exist because of the interference of the old gods and titans. And as for my chain of events, it's all true in warcraft lore. Why you got offended and say it's absurd, I don't understand. I wasn't trying to start an argument, just pointing out that a lot of the wars that happened in warcraft, has happened because of the void lords and their old God creations.
@andrewroncallo13367 жыл бұрын
Justin Carson dude listen. The void lords CREATED the old gods. Sargeras had found a planet with a titan soul, and saw that it had been corrupted by the old gods. This caused him to cut the planet in half, killing the old gods, but also killing the titan soul with the planet. This caused the pantheon of titans to get angry, and confront Sargera's on what he has done. Sargera's tried to tell the others what he had seen, but none believes him, and thought he should have tried to save the planet and titan before committing the act he had done. Sargera's though felt he did the right thing, as the titans had not witnessed the corrupting power of the old gods. You are right, it had been the void lords that had been responsible for these chain of events, but the old gods kicked it off by driving Sargeras to madness.
@melonman65227 жыл бұрын
The Void Lords are the cause of Sargeras going evil, not the Old Gods, meaning it was them who caused Sargeras' madness and then the rest of the chain, not any of chronicles. Check Chronicles, they recently retconned it, Sargeras is motivated to burn planets to save them from the Void Gods corrupting them, seems like cutting off your hand so no one else does, but that's besides the point. Even if that was the case you'd still have to show they did that with the intention to cause Arthas to torture Bolvar. After all with using event chains like this, you could blame the holocaust on a guy having lunch in 1888 for somehow causing Hitler's parents to meet resulting in Hitler, resulting in Hitler's anti-Semitic thoughts, resulting in him rising in power, resulting in the Holocaust. If we did that trials would be ridiculous and end up sometimes stretching to people who have been dead for thousands of years being at fault for things. If you genuinely meant well, I apologize for my hostility, just don't like being corrected by people unless they ARE correct.

I could be wrong but a while ago I remember seeing some video that explained how some of Yogg-Saron's quotes, particularly from the Ulduar fight with him, were also said exactly the same way by different people through out history and time in warcraft. Does anyone know if this is true? Or where that video might be?
@LoreWhore8 жыл бұрын
Might not be what you mean, but during phase two of the Yogg-Saron encounter, he creates visions that players have to enter in order to get access to his brain. You "see" the Lich King torturing Bolvar Fordragon, the creation of the Demon Soul, and Garona's assassination of King Llane, all while Yogg-Saron whispers in your ear. Not sure about any of his other quotes though.
@therealoldnosey86898 жыл бұрын
Lore Whore Yeah I know that part. I might just be remembering something that didn't happen, but I swear Deathwing or someone once said, "bow down before the god of death." Also he does say, "No king rules forever, only death is eternal," which is what the spirit of King Menethil II said to Arthas after Arthas is defeated.
@LoreWhore8 жыл бұрын
I don't remember it, but that sounds like a thing Deathwing would say, lol. I remember someone posing a theory that between King Terenas II repeating Yogg's quote, and the music playing in the background, that perhaps the ghost was really Yogg, and that later we would find out that Bolvar Lich King was under the influence of the Old Gods. Pretty sure Blizz shot down that theory though by saying they had no plans for the Lich King to be a threat again or something.

Wrong. The dwarves descended not from the earthen, but the metallic blue dwarves you can find in The Storm Peaks. The TROGGS descended from the earthen. The Curse of Flesh affects different body types in different ways, the softer the 'skin' or smaller the body, the curse had more severe effects on. As the earthen were stone creatures, and the metal dwarves were...METAL creatures (obviously stone is less dense and softer than metals) the earthen transformed into a primitive version of the dwarves called the TROGGS. since the curse of flesh had a more severe effect on them.
@LoreWhore8 жыл бұрын
You're partially correct. According to the Platinum Discs in Uldaman and the Tribunal of Ages in the Halls of Stone, the original Earthen were what descended into Troggs. When the Titans discovered the anomaly, they reshaped the Earthen to be more resilient to this anomaly. This second wave of Earthen are what became the Dwarves, but the ones we know and play went into hiding in Uldaman at the time of the Sundering. Those that became the Frostborn likely ones that migrated north from Uldaman (according to Brann Bronzebeard) and taken by Loken and frozen for a long period of time. Which is why Brann calls them his dwarf brothers or perhaps dwarf ancestors. It's not clear if the Frost Dwarves represent the appearance of Dwarves sometime in their evolution, or if they evolved into Frostborn after their migration to become a separate race from the Dwarven ancestors.
