Wolfe and Wurlitzer vol.3! I bought the VHS video-tape and damned near wore it out replaying it... Absolutely brilliant showcase of Robert's mastery, and the combination of Wolfe and Wurlitzer STILL amazes and influences me 28 years after first hearing him on BBC Radio Norfolk, and deciding the "Theatre Organ" was the musical instrument for me! Now all I need to do is learn to play one... Lol.

such a special thrill to see and hear Robert Wolfe again!! We first heard him play in 1982 at the Riviera Theatre in North Tonawanda. we went to many of his concerts there and I also heard him play in 1997 at Thrusford. Love him forever! What speed! Would like to see him do Tiger Rag too.

I met Robert Quite recently at Shrewsbury buttermarket, he's a very talented player but also a remarkably nice person to speak to taking the time to mull around and chat to the audience including my self an ameture organist

I discovered the best way to play this is by running high voltage electric currents through the keys of my organ.

I hope amidst all those buttons and bellows there's a fire extinguisher because any faster and the things gonna blow!!!! What a terrific break from covidissimo!!!

It sounds and plays fine this end. The re-it bells come on at that time though, maybe thats what you mean?
@OrganMusicYT12 жыл бұрын
It was a combination piston for the pedal. It would basically register the pedal stops at the press of that button, based on what stops you had selected elsewhere. However, the system never really worked and it was abandoned on later Wurlitzers.

Well done Robert, what a shame about Thursford being closed down this year. Michael Parkinson

I think the only other Wurlitzer in the UK still with it's suitable bass pistons would be the Ex Empire Leicester Square Wurlitzer.

Ugh. Such a sloppy performance on a god-awful instrument (sarcasm intended). All joking aside, though, both the instrument and artist should be commended for such a performance. I was in complete awe of this. I would give the performance two thumbs up if I could!

So where is the controlled piano mounted as part of this particular organ?
@OrganMusicYT10 жыл бұрын
The piano sits to the right side of the stage, about 30-40ft away from the console
@HelloKittyFanMan.10 жыл бұрын
Whow, Cannock Chase Organ Club, that reminds me of Organ Stop Pizza, except that there you can see the piano up in plain view (as far as I know about these 2 places by their videos here). That's the most fascinating thing for me about organs, is the ones that have more than just pipes in them, especially when one big segment of the organ is an entire multi-note instrument in and of itself -- especially when that's a piano that's being played by remote! Hey, so with that piano being so far away from this spot, it must be miked and that's what we're hearing on the video. Right?
@OrganMusicYT10 жыл бұрын
Obviously to record the video, the whole set up would be mic'd, but not necessarily from this point. It would be mic'd from the middle of the auditorium to capture the full spread of the sound in the room. This organ records extremely well and the piano comes through crystal clear without having it's own dedicated microphone.
@HelloKittyFanMan.10 жыл бұрын
It's interesting that even though the piano section of the organ doesn't have itS own microphones, it can still be heard well from the middle even though it's kind of off to the side where it's not seen. Well, you know, if you were sitting there and seeing someone playing that organ keyboard but then hearing a piano off in the distance somewhere mimicking what he was keying, that might seem a bit spooky! :D To have some of the pipes hidden away would be one thing because we're used to having some ranks that we can see and some that we can't, but I think the piano section ought to be placed where the audience can see it plainly, and even have a 45-degree-(or-so)-angled mirror above it with the lid open so that they can see the action as the guy plays!
@OrganMusicYT10 жыл бұрын
The audience can see the piano plainly, the stage is some 60ft wide, the console is not bang on the centre of the stage either, its an orchestral set up, with the console to one side of the main proscenium arch.
