Excellent video. Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition and the Teaching Authority of the Catholic Church clearly show us that Jesus fulfilled the Old Covenant with a New and perfect Covenant. Jesus gave us a new and perfect priesthood as his representatives on earth. Thanks be to God.

Does the Eastern Orthodox priesthood share the same origins and qualities?

It would certainly trace its roots very similarly, I’d think.

According to Exodus 40:15 and Numbers 25:13, levitical priesthood is perpetual or forever. Numbers 18:19 applies "covenant of salt" to this priesthood. This means levitical priesthood will be preserved just like we use salt to preserve food. In OT covenant of salt appears twice. The second one is applied to kingship of David's descendants through Solomon in 2 Chronicles 13:5. It was based on God's promise to David in 2 Samuel 12-13. Jeremiah later reaffirmed the everlasting continuity of both David kingship line and levitical priesthood in Jer 33:17-18. The everlasting continuity David's kingship was fulfilled in Christ (Luke 1:32-33) and that of levitical priesthood was fulfilled in New Testament priests of the Catholic Church. Another prophecy in Isaiah 66:21 says that God will take as priests and levites from all nations or they no longer have to be Jews. Levitical priests of Judaism cannot fulfill Jeremiah's prophecy after their Jerusalem Temple was destroyed in 70 AD. NT levitical priests no longer offer animal sacrifice like their OT counterparts. They make present the same sacrifice of Christ on the cross in every Mass. This is possible because Christ, as The Lamb, has been slain from the foundation of the world (Rev. 13:8). The Greek verb "slain" of Rev 13:8 is in passive perfect tense. Unlike that of English Greek passive perfect tense was completed in the past with continuing results to the present. The Greek phrase "it is written" in NT is also in passive perfect tense. Whenever you buy a new Bible, Scripture is REPRINTED in any language but it is NOT REWRITTEN as it was completely written and remains written ever since. Therefore Christ's single sacrifice can be made present, NOT repeated, because as the lamb He has been slain from the foundation of the world and appeared once for all on the cross two thousand years ago.

Well, I’m sorry, but I think your post is a little misguided. The priesthood that takes over is not the Zadok priesthood. The new priesthood is the Order of Melchizedek. Explain throughout the book of Hebrews. And Genesis 15. Also revelations and Peter i’ll say that we are all priest now. So the perpetual priesthood is now offered everybody . Through Christ, death and resurrection. Once, and for all, and never ever to be re-presented like in the Eucharist

@@JC_Forum_of_Christ The general priesthood of all believers was prefigured in OT in EXo. 19:6. Catholics also believe that all baptized Catholics, males and females, belong to kingdom of priests. God established Levitical priesthood as distinct priesthood, declared it to be everlasting. The prophecies in Jer 33:18 and Isaiah 66:21 are connected to the Levitical priesthood. Priests without sacrifice are not priests and Catholics also believe Christ offered Himself once for all on the cross. How do we reconcile these two was already explained. Copied and pasted below: NT levitical priests no longer offer animal sacrifice like their OT counterparts. @@justfromcatholic God proclaim that the biblical priest is gone in Malachi. And then he proclaims that the older more pure order of Melchizedek is the new Priestley order. God abolished the sacrifice when Rome destroyed the temple in 70AD. When the Velor, that’s the actual moment that Jesus replaced the Levitical priesthood with the Melchizedek. That’s why we take communion because God showed us how to take real communion in Genesis 15. And Malachi, the Lord rebuke, the priest offspring . So GOD, got rid of it. It’s supposed to come back at sometime, but it will disappear again.

@@JC_Forum_of_Christ If that is your understanding then you nullify both the prophecy in Jer. 33:18 as well as God's promise of everlasting priesthood in Exo. 40:15. The fact that Jerusalem Temple was destroyed showed that the levitical priesthood of Judaism cannot fulfil the prophecy in Jer. 33:18 and Isaiah 66:21.

protestants think they have been authorized to have their own interpretation of the Bible due to the great event of the so-called Reformation, which they add to the event of Christ to get God's revelation right... lol lol lol

Hey I'm late to this! Does anyone have more information on how the Maccabean pharisee priesthood was corrupted/different from the priesthood of old? I'm INCREDIBLY fascinated by this because growing up Protestant, I always thought Jesus despised the Pharisees simply because they represented the Law/legalism, and therefore likened all religious practices to being "Pharasaical" as it were. I had still been wrestling with that dilemma while discerning Catholicism until I heard Dr. Bergsma say that the priesthood was completely infiltrated and corrupted by political figures and WOW! I need more resources for that because I'm astonished, it makes so much sense!

"For every high priest chosen from among men is appointed to act on behalf of men in relation to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins.... And one does not take the honor upon himself, but he is called by God, just as Aaron was. So also Christ did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed...." Heb 5:1-5

@@henrybarr7307 Roman Catholic apologetics tend to read history anachronistically & they also read Scripture, forced to come to a conclusion because their church tells them so. Hebrews is pretty clear. The OT priesthood is obsolete. Why? Because the priests repetitively offered sacrifices that couldn’t make the worshiper who drew near perfect. That’s what goes on in the Mass. a repetitive “representation” that doesn’t perfect anyone

@@aGoyforJesus OR Protestants tend to read history anachronistically and read scripture based on conclusions they (or their favorite theologians) prefer. Hebrews is pretty clear that the OT sacrifices do not take away sins and need to be repeated. Nothing in Hebrews refutes the Catholic belief that the once-for-all objective sacrifice of Christ is re-presented and subjectively applied at mass.

@@aGoyforJesus if we do read it anachronistically then explain why these two protestants in this video became Catholic? When a protestant that is becoming Catholic reads scripture it is not because they ONLY need a church to have the right interpretation of scripture but where does scripture come from? in one passage of scripture Jesus clearly builds a church and passes authority down to the apostles in mathew 16-18. The Church eventually became known as the Catholic Church meaning the whole church. We go to mass every Sunday because it is simply what Jesus has told us to do, to recieve his body in memory of him so we can be closer to him and he heals us.

@@henrybarr7307 Almost all Catholic historians that aren't part of the Catholic apologetic crowd, and by this I mean serious academics in institutions, have been moving affirming what I'm telling you about the anachronisms. Things like the papacy developed over time. Or that prior to the 19th century Catholics didn't believe that their doctrines developed over time. Or the Assumption of Mary etc etc. So given that background, I'm pretty safe in saying that most Catholic apologetics is grounded in anachronisms. They're trying to hold to the party line of how many years ago that mainstream Catholicism has abanonded. //Hebrews is pretty clear that the OT sacrifices do not take away sins and need to be repeated. Nothing in Hebrews refutes the Catholic belief that the once-for-all objective sacrifice of Christ is re-presented and subjectively applied at mass.// And Hebrews shows the proof of this is the repetitive nature of the worshipers having to do it again & again. Like going to the Mass every Sunday.
