Hello, I have a scotch collie female, believe it or not it is a rescue dog, somebody dumped the nicest dog ever for her to end up with my family, Jessie is a very energetic and intelligent dog, so intelligent to the level that we sometimes have to speak a different language in front of her not to let her know what we are up to :D I don't know how to register her though.

Funnily enough my husband and I had to do that with our gsd, and include spelling out words.

I had one of these dogs when I was a kid. Truly, they are wonderful wonderful dogs. I hope the AKC never gets their hands on them - they will ruin them.

I'm lucky to have gotten one a few months ago from one of the most prestigious Scotch collie breeders in the country (USA). What a great dog.

We adopted a puppy 6 years ago from a friend on a farm in West Texas. We met the mother and she was an Aussie Shephard, but they weren’t sure who the father was. After seeing photos of Scotch Collies it’s no doubt that’s the father. We love our Mozart (pronounced Mozy). She is so intelligent and intuitive. So happy to know there are more like her out there!

I actually had fights with collie fanciers online about the fact that lassie was supposed to be a scotch collie. and also about how the rough collie is a show line, since they were saying there's no working line of the collie. 🤦

I’d love to have one of these!

Luckily the working type is alive as the Gaucho Sheepdog in Brazil..... It might be worth crossing this line back into the show line....

My beloved Honeybun just died 2 weeks ago today. She was adopted at the age of 7 from our local animal shelter. Seeing her picture immediately drew me to her, something she did in real life every day. I just discovered that she was an Old-Time Scotch Collie, with gorgeous deep red sable body and stark long white mane around her neck and chest. She was our Big Beauty, the most regal, intelligent, loving companion anyone could want. The last 3 months of her 14 year life were hard, she was diagnosed with Mammary Cancer and Diabetes. Even with that she fought valiantly to live and we are devastated that she has left us. Thank you for giving the history of this wonderful breed. We very much want to one day have another Old-Time Scotch Collie to grace our lives.

I've grown up with rough collies, and today, (in Ireland at least) the Irish collie and Shetland sheep dog association and Irish Kennel club are highly protective and promotional of healthy breeding. Far too many people breed dogs today, not checking for lineage or past health problems. Leading do blind and/or white coat rough collies, German shepherds with roach backs terrible joint problems with bearded collies (actually with a lot of breeds) and the list can go on. I don't know why, but today quite a few people still have the impression, show dogs are bred like show dogs 50+ years ago. When in reality, we check back up family trees, and try avoid mating dogs with a shared grand or great grand parent. Or in the case of myself, my Abbie, has no relations with Arthur (father of her 3 puppies) 5 generations back. One from the family tree I belive had small problems with hip dysplasia. Which is not a bad thing, as it's something later generations have not shown, and hopefully have and will resist in future etc. Pretty Dogs are good show dogs. But show dogs that are healthy is more important. I've a friend with a fantastic retired working Collie. However, he has something similar to spina bifida. So he has retired young, and has never bred. But is still a national champion. Which shows well for his sisters and nieces/nephews. I do know someone who got very upset at a show, because their German Shepherd got quite low marks compared to the rest. He had a roach back, and was not permitted to register under the kennel club as a breeding dog.

Borzoi are nice dogs. Nothing wrong with them in particular. But they are NOT collies. And shouldn't have been bred into them.

I have a rough collie mix that looks an awful lot like these dogs. It's still in there.

So glad to find out that someone is recovering the old type and breeding for something other than matching the livingroom carpet. I love collies of all types but I'm leery of getting a Rough Collie or Sheltie from a show breeder. My current girl is a Border Collie from working stock parents. Give me brains over kennel club "standards" any day of the week.

My father had one growing up on a small farm in 1917..till Bess passed in about 1927 . I was always jealous that he had a dog when he was little but wouldn't have a dog on his farm when i was little. So the first thing i got for my house when i got married was a dog... since then i have raised shelties for 55 years off and on.

It’s a shame in Britain we mixed it with borzoi’s and deerhounds of existence to create the rough and smooth collie I’d love to see it back here
