I thought I would leave this for anyone wanting Omega seeds. I do sell pepper seeds, but I haven't released the Omega yet and do not sell seeds or pods. I will continue to work on this pepper until I have it tested, and the results beat the current record by a sizable amount. I want this pepper to be tested somewhere in the 3 millions and will keep working on it until then. Even if it beats the record by a couple of 100k, that won't be good enough. I may get results like that this year or it might be next year. The Omega pepper, and my very new, Omega Gamma pepper, are just side projects of my regular pepper business. But that's what makes growing peppers fun.

As someone new to trying to build up my tolerance one of many questions I have. When eating a hot sauce how does that compare to just eating the actual pepper in that sauce? So say I have a sauce with Scotch Bonnet and Habanero in it. Is the heat diluted in the sauce because of other ingredients or is it still similar to the heat if just eating one of those peppers?
@matthewx360 Жыл бұрын
A raw pod is much hotter in my experience. Using a sauce in a sensible way (not chugging a bottle) is no comparison to munching a super hot pod. Line your stomach and have some dairy on stand by and you're good to go. The Death Nut challenge is a good test and you can eat as few or as many as you like to see how you get on. As hot as the actual Death Nut is, I feel a raw reaper would be worse.
@prairiedogs001 Жыл бұрын
Being relatively new to peppers, I just learned that crossing them essentially relies on cross-pollination. Now I'm thinking putting my Carolina reaper plant side by side with my scotch bonnet plant may have been a bad idea. Is this a legitimate concern?
@tombroome4189 Жыл бұрын
If you have flying insects around, yes. But that's only if you want to collect seeds for the next year. If you don't save seeds, the plants being together doesn't affect the pods you get on the plants

Are Chocolate peppers normally some form of cross from it's red version or does the red plant pop out a random Chocolate pepper and the seeds from that pepper produce that color?
@tombroome4189 Жыл бұрын
They usually just happen. Genotype has to do with all the genetics seen or not seen in that seed. Phenotype is the attributes you see and taste in the plant and pods. A red plant that comes up with seeds that make a chocolate pepper, had it in its genes, but is not being shown.
@anchopanchorancho Жыл бұрын
A red plant will not grow chocolate colored peppers. However, it might produce seeds capable of growing chocolate plants. (If it's in the genetics.) You never know until you plant the seeds. It's a lot of work to make these hybrids and even more work to stabilize them.

Johnny does my 10 million Scoville tincture every once in a while. Even though pure capsaicin is 16 million, a pepper can only have so much capsaicin content. At some point the walls of the pods would break down and they wouldn't have form. I'm sure peppers will get into the 3 millions, but I'm going to work on certain projects to see how close to 4 million is possible using special horticultural techniques and nutrients.
@forgodssakehuskers6261 Жыл бұрын
@@tombroome4189 Are you saying, the hotter the pepper, the thicker, or stronger the walls must be? Does this mean is harder to chew up and consume? There's a hybrid thought.

@@forgodssakehuskers6261 no, it would be the opposite, but there is a lot of room in-between. Let's just say that if a pod contained so much capsaicin that it tested at 12 million, there wouldn't be enough other materials in the pod to hold its structure together.

Yes, if someone ever sent him a non released pepper and he kept or distributed seeds, nobody would trust him with their peppers ever again. One of the reasons you see Johnny doing my peppers is because he can be trusted. Troy obviously feels the same way. Pepper espionage is big money and some people have based their business on using and renaming someone else's peppers, and hard work.

@@tombroome4189 I'm in a similar business. I'm sure you can guess. Hence why I know the deal. It's always nice to have backup seeds if God forbid you lose your stock. I would want him to harvest every seed possible and give them back or just cache them. Knowing someone has my stock is like insurance.
