Was anyone else really upset when the queen died ? I didn't care much for the king but when the queen died I was devastated. I was really hoping for the queen and America to finally get the chance to bond together. Especially after the queen lost her 2 babys in her stomach and had waited so long to finally have a daughter. I was also really upset when Celeste died. At the beginning of the book I wanted her gone but at the end she didn't seem like a bad person at all ! In so many ways I thought The One could have been better. Was anyone else disappointed with the ending of the last book ?

"He finally released a breath I didn't see he was holding" THAT IS BY FAR THE MOST RIDICULOUS INCARNATION OF THAT SENTENCE I HAVE EVER SEEN. And America is the most frustrating protagonist ever. BUT THESE BOOKS ARE SO FUN TO READ AND RANT ABOUT. I wish we had an epilogue after the epilogue to see what their lives are like AFTER. I kinda wanna see the chaos and drama that occurs when you have two of the most immature people ever running the country XD
@kaybanks878110 жыл бұрын
Yeah, an epilogue would be great, but I fear that it would be something epic like, "looking deeply into Maxon's eyes, I wanted to tell him that I am going to have his child, but then I thought, 'Later, I'll tell him later. Afterall, we have nine months.'" (and I really want another book deal.)

I think it's the fact that from the begginning of the series with The Selection we were introduced in a fun sort of world with royalty and colors and beautiful dresses and the notion that we are reading something like a Next Top Model/The Bachellor kind of book (if that makes sense?) and all of that awakened our most girly side? I mean common the dresses were gorgeous in my mind! I was so jealous... :p I would love to be part of the selection and be a princess just for the clothes:D

the most angering part for me was when Maxon saw America and Aspen and was like, "America, we are SO done," and then at the moment before he was going to announce it was Kriss, he was so cross with her, and she's crying and upset and can barely hold herself togeather. Then he gets shot and he's all like, "yeah cool. so let's get married." No Maxon. It DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY.

I think the author was trying to tell us that America had been gone for a while and she had little communication with her family due to their distance and that obviously led to the "sudden" death of her father. Although, America does mention that he had been having heart problems.

I felt empty, I was sooo in the mood to read more of that. I'm frustrated, I want more! I feel that if I read the heir it'll lose a lot of its magic for me. I feel as if the ending chapters were too abrupt and rushed, I could barely even hold my breath!

Omg the book THE BOOK I was reading it. In class. At school. Surrounded by normal people. And Celeste was shot. I threw my book down, stood up, and screamed, "NO I REFUSE SHE IS NOT DEAD I REFUSE IT REFUTAL!!!" And was looked at like I was crazy. Then the whole Maxon thing I was sitting there like, "KIERA CASS I LOVE YOU BUT LEARN. BETTER. CHARACTER. DEVELOPMENT. HONESTLY, IF YOU PORTRAY A CHARACTER THAT IS VERY KIND AND UNDERSTANDING AND EVEN SAYS " If I could have stopped Marlee's caning, I would" YOU DONT JUST MAKE HIM GO ALL COLD AND THING YOU HAVE TO STICK TO YOUR CHARACTER AND HOW HE ACTS. MAXON WAS A COMPASSIONATE PERSON. LIKE OMG." and the fact that I felt like there wasn't a lot of consistency with tenses, like, I felt like it kept switching back and forth between past and present tense (I've noticed that in the first two books as well). Honestly, even after all that, I feel this is my favorite. Even if I guessed the Kriss rebel thing in the second book. The Elite is the worst I think though. Out of the series. Oh, and I noticed the red white blue thing and I walked up to someone who has read the series and said "did you notice this??"
@sel651210 жыл бұрын
Maxon's reaction was so fast I had my mouth open that whole chapter. I was like: "America, wait what? Leaning against Aspen...WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT???? Maxon. No. What? WOAH. Well, America kinda asked for that....But why Maxon? D: #Confuzzled" Yeah, The Elite is my least fav too. The Selection has to be my favorite, though, as I didn't feel the need to chuck the book. XD

I find it frustrating that so many people somehow hate these characters and the events in the book. I find this series the BEST series I've EVER read. Yes, some situations are kind of ironic or uncomfortable. You mentioned an example that was Aspen taking her down the aisle. I pictured that as him finally giving up on loving her in a romantic way, and instead proving that he just cares about her. She also never said that the Northern Rebel was Elise. And I actually did find it as a surprise that Kriss never really wanted Maxon at the beginning. And it showed the readers why she may have pushed a little bit harder to be with him. As for "procrastination..." Yes, she did procrastinate. But mostly for all the right reasons. She couldn't tell Maxon about her past with Aspen while they were in an intimate situation. I honestly can't imagine me reading another book because I don't think I'll ever connect with the characters like I did with this series of books.
@ventzislavayousif95298 жыл бұрын
The thing is, nobody will ever be fully satisfied with the books, and that's totally fine with me. I don't think you can just simply say you liked the book, while you are also bashing it more that saying you the good things. I understand some frustrations. And I'll admit, after I finished I reread and reread because I felt lost. Soon, it all made sense. After that, I couldn't have been happier with the outcome. Sure, Celeste and Queen Amberlys deaths may not have been needed. But at the same time, I think it helped them realize some things. Maxons ,dear mother, went out protecting the man she loved. And Celeste died a changed woman. That, I'm satisfied with. Thats all for me. I'm out. Peace✌🏻️

Has anyone noticed how much this love triangle is like the love triangle in the Shatter Me trilogy? Just think about it though. Scars... Blonde guy... Dark haired guy... Saving lives and bullet wounds and shit? HOLY SHIT SPEAKING OF BULLET WOUNDS. JULIETTE GOT SHOT IN THE HEART AND MAXON GOT SHOT IN THE CHEST AND WARNER GOT SHOT IN THE ARM AND SO DID AMERICA HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT. WHAT IS LIFE???
@sweetiemahum9 жыл бұрын
OMG YES!! The entire time I was reading I couldn't stop myself from comparing the two books. Juliette was always so indecisive and changed her mind constantly. It was infuriating and the same thing happened to America. Especially how Warner had a tormented childhood since his father used to physically and mentally abuse him, Maxon went through the same thing. They both had marks on their bodies as a result from that. And especially how America and Juliette both had first loves (Aspen and Adam) but found out that it wasn't true love. Since they met another men, and at first absolutely hated him but soon after grew to love him. IT WAS SO SIMILAR! I thought I was the only one who realized!!

Layan Mahmoud lol ikr. America was sort of very indecisive even to like, the very last minute but juliette made up her mind before Unravel Me was barely over.
@annachen65629 жыл бұрын
Layan Mahmoud I definitely liked Shatter Me more because although Juliette was very indecisive and at times her thought process was annoying, her character still made sense. Like, if someone was basically isolated from society their entire life, it would make sense for them to question their own thoughts because they're so used to nobody else doing it for them. America, on the other hand, was just plain effing annoying. She just kept being so incredibly stupid throughout the entire series!!! Like, OH MY GOD!!!! I was sooooo pissed when she wouldn't say I love you to Maxon, and when they were basically engaged, she had to have that moment with Aspen that ruined the whole thing all over again. Just, honestly, I wanted to pull her out of the book, punch her in the face then put her back in after telling her exactly what to do. Just, FJkhbslkhgwabzifwjfdsa. Those were my feelings throughout the entire series. Also, in Shatter Me, Juliette progresses as a character a lot, while America basically just sated her same annoying self.

I was definitely in emotional turmoil at the end of the book as everyone was dropping like flies and then they were marrying. I definitely expected Aspen to give her away though. I saw it coming. The book was good, but the ending was a shit. That ruined the whole series. And America is the most stupid, frustating, annoying and dramatic character ever. She is always crying. ALWAYS. And she gets angry with Maxon because of any stupid thing that happen. So, I don't recommend it. There are funny moments and all but the ending... I don't have words to describe how awful it was. SPOILER What I think I hated the most was that the author didn't know how to end the book with the problems solved, so she killed everyone. For example, the love triangle between Aspen, Anne and Lucy. Kills Anne. America does't have a good relationship with the king. Kills the king. The Queen loved the king so much so she couldn't bear his death. Kills the Queen. Things such like that.
@jana65876 жыл бұрын
Marian Rios this is so true that’s what I thought too because the king didn’t like America and America and everyone wanted to remove the castes but how will the king all of a sudden agree so she made him dies the end was kind of disappointing
@mrsl55145 жыл бұрын
So true. I felt like I got whip lash from the ending. It was like the first 85% was on slow mode and then someone pressed fast forward for the last 15%!!! The most frustrating was the attack!!!! This had such a huge potential to be epic!!! SPOILER! Why not have Maxon tell everyone he's chosen Kris then have America start walk away in her shame, leave the room in her ever present tears, and then have her see a guard she never saw before carrying a gun into the room and then hear the gunfire? FAR FAR more dramatic! Why not EXPLAIN how southern rebels got into the castle? Why not HINT at this throughout the book like a good author is supposed to do? WHAT WAS THE POINT OF PAIGE!!!!???? AHH!!!! Oh and America should be deaf from shooting A GUN IN AN ENCLOSED SPACE! I'm all for fantasy but this is just ridiculous. Some people are upset about how Maxon acted toward America after her found out about Aspen but I can speak personally that yes, that is a valid response, to want to hurt the person as bad as they hurt you. I know it's jarring but I thought it was a very human response. I agree the no funerals was very jarring. The book needed to be a lot longer. Christine is right, the world totally needed to be fleshed out more. What exactly was the point of the castes, I still don't understand that? If you want to be a dictator, you want everyone poor, except your posse, right? It would have been nice to see the world fleshed out because it seems like America had a hard life but no where near Katniss' hell. I think a description of how the town lived would have been better because the world did not seem so awful at all. Okay that was longer than I meant it to me, just had to air out my frustrations :)

I really hated it when Aspen saw America in Maxon's bed and was like. "I can't believe you slept with him." Me: "Who tf cares? She isn't your property. Don't you like Lucy tf? Don't judge her. Goodness." *Drops mic and walks off the stage* I'd give it 4.5 stars. If only Aspen died in a rebel war it would've been a 5 cx Or if America just said. "I love you." In the beginning

I probably have a very unpopular opinion but anyways here it goes. While I completely agree America is very frustrating i grew love for this character that I can't explain. I wanted to cry when the book was over. God, I can never forget Maxon and America and can I risk and say this was probably my favorite trilogy from the few I've read? About Celeste, never thought I would say this but I was so incredibly sad when she died... And I was starting to hate Kriss a little bit to be honest. About the queen, I have no words. I loved that woman. I was really heartbroken. Same about America's dad. About the king... lol he should've died on the first book. Hated that piece of shit. And I was actually sad about Anne too... The poor maid... I actually loved that Aspen and America could have that moment and while Aspen annoyed me too at the end I liked him. I'm just basically here ranting bc I feel a little empty after this... But I loved it, flaws and all!

@scarletleader54204 жыл бұрын
Okay, but am I the only one who didn't think his reaction was out of proportion? He just found out that her ex-boyfriend, the man who he always feared she still loved, was there the whole time and she didn't tell him. That the ex-boyfriend who kept her love letters in his room, guarded her freaking room every night. That she had LIED to him this entire time. Everytime she refused to tell him how she felt, or everytime she rejected him, she had Aspen in her freaking doorstep. Aspen was the one she trusted to lead them out of the castle. And when Aspen saw them together in her room, she freaked out and ran to him to explain nothing had happened with Maxon. Like, looking back, he must have felt so stupid for not realizing. I'm more amazed he was even able to trust her after that. How could he believe a single word that comes out of her mouth?

I totally agree with you about pretty much everything you said. It was just so addicting to read. Your reaction at 12:46 was mine too when I was reading it in class xD DANG IT. JUST WHEN I WAS STARTING TO LIKE HER. When reading the Dad's letter, I thought back to your The Elite book talk where you made that theory! You were spot on!

I LOVE these books, but the whole entire time I was reading them I imagined it in like the 1800s or something. Was that just me? The fact that they kept on talking about cellphones and movie theaters in the castle and airplanes and crap just threw me off. WHHHAT. I also just kept imagining her traveling in a horse drawn carriage and wearing royal ball gowns, not knee length/floor length prom dresses… so when Maxon bought her jeans I was like "Girls wore Jeans then?" anyway so good! but I was just dying because it didn't ever come across futuristic/post world war 4 to me. I love your booktalk videos so so much

I literally just finished this book and I was so glad when I saw this video in my subscriptions! I could not agree more with everything that you said about this book. Just tonight I found myself getting more and more frustrated by America and wanting to throw my book against the wall. I can't decide if it was a good thing that she stayed true to her character for the entire series or if she was warranted some character development.

Was anyone else slapped in the face when Lucy and Aspen just randomly got together at the end?? LIKE WHEN? WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN?? And America didn’t even seem surprised she was like “eh, multiple people just died nothing surprises me anymore” so many turns in just a span of 2 chapters.

KIERA CASS IS MAKING TWO MORE BOOKS- plus there's the second epilogue where America is carrying some things I WANTED TO THROW BURN THE ELITE. I don't hate the book, I really love the book, IM SO ENGAGE TO THE BOOK THAT I HAVE TO COMMENT AND SAVOR EVERY SINGLE WORD. My thoughts exact. I love them all to much, but I freaking hate every single thing about their decisions (except Maxon, Maxon is perfect.) And Celeste though, I miss her, she's that bad ass best friend that everyone wants. And I want to know more about Georgia, she's my favorite secondary character. Every single cute Maxon and America scene is my favorite, like you two keep saying "let's be honest" AMERICA YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HONESTLY MEANS. But the tea party where they invite two people was my favorite scene, like there's literally the most three powerful combination in the world, and you have no idea they're in front on you.

Prerana Pachhai while book endings normally don't satisfy me, this one did. all i could ever ask for is a novella that her her life later. not an epilogue, not a novel. something in between. maybe a couple chapters. do the singers move in at the palace, or in the house? how many kids do america and maxon have? what it the status of the castes? what happened to the rebels? lucy and aspen? Amberly's family? do marlee and the officer have kids? if so, do marlee's kids and America's kids play together? just a brief touch on all those types of things.

This book (mostly just America) was EXTREMELY frustrating, but at the same time I loved it and couldn't stop reading. As always, you have said everything that was in my my mind and really you summed up 2 days of pure agony in to a 15 minute video. And that's why I love you :)

THANK YOU. America drove me insane. Not that I hated the books, but UGH she's soooooooo frustrating!!! Every word you said was like all my thoughts of the series wrapped up into a perfect description of my inner mind. I think my most frustrating moment, WAIT lets change this to moment(s), is every time Aspen kept getting involved. SERIOUSLY AMERICA, LET HIM GO. THE PAST IS IN THE PAAAAAAST! (sorry for the frozen lyrics) Anyways, great video, thanks for actually asking us to rant. I think I needed that.

I was really upset when the Queen died... Her dad's death was sad and I was overjoyed that the King died but the Queen??? Also when we found out Anne died too I almost screamed! WHYYYY KIERA CASS?!?! America made me wanna punch a wall way to many times but most of the time I loved her?! IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE GAH! I love how Celeste came around and we got to see the real her. Why couldn't the southern rebel shoot Natalie or someone else instead of Celeste??? I think that having Aspen walk America down the isle at her wedding was really sweet even though I didn't like him 90% of the time. Having Marlee be at the wedding too made me really happy! I love the first three books so much but I'm excited for a new POV in The Heir. I really just love these books (and Maxon).. sigh...
@nataliedale89799 жыл бұрын
ikr like america's so annoying but the cute ass moments (that happen like once every 100 pages) make up for it. I loves the part in The Favorite when Marlee looked in the garden and was watching Maxon and America talking. I love those little tiny cute moments. ANd the part when the rebels visited and Maxon just knew that she would want sugar in her coffee and he nudged it towards her without her asking!!!

Briana McColly He was not mad because he saw America just close with a guy. He was mad because he suddenly realized that he was the ex boyfriend America was talking about. He remembered the way she looked at him and the letter back at Aspen's room. What made him decide to marry Kriss was that he can't stand being with America because she was not honest with him and that really breaks his heart.

Danica Mae But what? Maxon didn't think that America felt the same way he did when he saw her with Aspen as she did when he was Kriss or Celeste. At least she gave him time to explain a bit on both cases. But he didn't let America say anything on the Aspen situation.

The worst moment in this book was hard to decide for me... I think it is when Maxon saw America standing next to Aspen and then he said it was over. I was happy when they got married at the end, but I love this book.

I thought this series was such a fun read and enjoyed each book but my favorite so far is this one. I liked their crazy adventure together in the bad part of town and how America brought along the girl who helped her when she got shot. I think it's true, the sometimes we don't realize how much we love someone until they are gone or hurt. I really liked how Aspen and Marlee were both part of America's wedding and how Aspen and Maxon really did respect each other. I am so glad I waited until this whole series was out to read it so I can go right through all the books. I think it's hilarious how it is so much like The Bachelor show and The Heir is like The Bachlorette show--hilarious how America's bratty daughter learns about her parents Selection experiences and relates to America's friends and her Aunt May.
