I can't believe I came across this video. I just bought a used 1980 Gretsch Rosewood 2 days ago. I had a Gretsch Purewood Bubinga that was the most badass snare drum I ever had. I unfortunately sold it and have been looking for one ever since. After searching for months, I decided to buy the Rosewood. After seeing this video, I feel a lot better about my choice.

I have this Rosewood snare - both in 5.5" and 8" and love them both to death. Along with my Bell bronze and 13x7" Maple Gretsch snares, I love them all. But those Rosewood snares are something serious.

Its is a beautiful drum.

Hey mate. I also have the 5.5 and absolutely love it. I’m having a bit of trouble identifying the snare tho as it has no serial number. The shell has the silver sealer but has a black and silver badge like the Catalina series....is this still full range? All KZbin videos say it’s a full range but the badge in this video is different...

@@urauldwansbox21 Gretsch switches badges all the time, but Rosewood has always been Full Range as I can recall.

They're always going to choose the one they like the look of most. He wouldn't choose that drum if he was blindfolded, put it that way.

What?

Might be some truth to that. I've found that wood snares have a lot more crack when hit. I've owned dozens of snare drums; mostly steel and brass. But the wood seems to cut through everything. I had a bubinga Gretsch that got wows from other drummers and studio techs; that thing had some serious punch. And like you said; it was also extremely pretty.
