Nexus says nothing about fearing God. In fact, that is the beauty of this interpretation of Dostoyevsky, that it is NOT necessary to believe in some God to avoid the lie. Nexus posits that, for Dostoyevsky, meaning is found in undeniable connectedness of people with each other.

Yes and no. The value of humility in accepting ones place in the world is interesting (and pride has a stench that even the most ignorant can smell). However, having the capacity for self-reliance and independence should not be left out. Only then is the significance - the virtue - of submitting one's capacity to the aide of others an option that one may volunteer if one wishes. Put on your own oxygen mask before attempting to help your neighbor.

Separateness is the biggest lie. The model of a separate 'me' in here, a separate world 'out there' and then a separate God (or not) 'up there'. As Alan Watts put it, 'The sun is as much a part of me as is my foot'. Overcoming this lie is the greatest step one can take.

Enjoyed this presentation . The centrality of the individual and the nature of our interconnectedness to the collective , in determining our ‘ happiness’ , is correct . The nation / community requires a shared moral code , and pride / lack of personal humility poisons those relationships and causes disharmony and conflict

The power of the human mind results in a terror of what it knows beginning early in childhood.. Humanity weaves a fantasy to cope with this existential terror and the anxiety that travels with it. There are variations on this fantasy but it always has the same theme. It is acted on by culture but all cultures must respond to the same existential threat. Religion, politics, addiction, all carry the fantasy woven into the story. Humanity is still in its infancy regarding the terror of what the next moment may bring. The terror lives within the minds ability to perceive time and with it the future. The terror always lives in the future.

Dostoevsky believed that one of the biggest lies we tell ourselves is avoiding uncomfortable truths about who we are. This self-deception keeps us trapped in illusions, stopping us from living authentically and finding true happiness.

Wow what a great video again. Thank you so much. Dostojewski seems to share a similar philosophy like Alfred Adler, doesn't he?
@NexusInsight-1313 сағат бұрын
Thank you for your kind words! Dostoevsky and Adler share intriguing similarities, particularly in their exploration of human psychology and individual struggle. Dostoevsky frequently examines moral conflict and redemption, while Adler’s concepts of overcoming feelings of inferiority and striving for purpose reflect similar themes. Both authors provide rich insights into human nature!

If the lie makes life easier, then what's the issue again?
@NexusInsight-1313 сағат бұрын
That's a great question! While lies may offer temporary comfort, Dostoevsky believed they can ultimately distort our sense of self and reality. He emphasized that living in truth is essential for achieving genuine inner peace and fulfillment, even though it can sometimes be challenging. Lies, no matter how small, can create layers of illusion that eventually weigh us down. This debate between comfort and truth is fascinating and intellectually stimulating. To what extent should we prioritize comfort over truth?

The big lie is the hope for or belief in eternal life in some form or fashion when there is no evidence to support either.
@Baker311Күн бұрын
Its not about that its not even the religion its about humans impulse to corrupt each thing it touches the concepts it creates some always corrupt it like ruining a painting the eternal life was never a source of anything it was because the idea of it was twisted like idea of god is twisted if it is the source of horror its why these concepts are not real but the real sad thing is that humans cant even keep the concepts uncorrupted its often when humanity creates something beatiful a idea that is wisdomful and somehow inevitably we manage to corrupt it warp it to unrecognizable things desires bend thing to serve out desires, fear shapes them into weapons and shields greed transforms into objects of worship and pride turns wisdom to dogma.

I'm not a fan. 'Crime and Punishment' reads as a dislocated novel that bizarrely wends its way to praising the police, the judicial and penal systems, and god. As for the egomaniacal Raskolnikov, Dickens, in his final novel, 'Our Mutual Friend', (1865), gets to the point in just a line or two when describing Bradley Headstone stalking Eugene Wrayburn with murderous rage.
