In a story of so many father figures he was THE father figure. The way his BACK was set up... Zoro said in episode 27ish after being defeated by Mihawk that scars on the back are a swordsmans greatest shame. Then in this arc in the few last episodes before Whitebeard died he was surrounded by enemies an the comanders defended his back. Jimbey said to the navy that they are protecting pops pride. After Whitebeard told the comanders to back up luffy, jimbey still staid and protected his back. And before Asce died he also protected whitebeards back one last time before bowing down to him. IN HIS WHOLE LIFE HE NEVER SUFFERD A SCAR ON THE BACK WHILE RUNNING AWAY. I would literally watch a thousand 1 hour long episodes of grass growing just to experience One Piece Episode 485 one more time without knowing anything. The best 10 minutes in all of fiction period.

The battle started as a proclamation of the peak of the current generation...all these new world beasts showing up for their final stand for Ace. But as the battoe devolved, all the key characters realized the historic changing of the era in front of their eyes. And the final sentence of the era was because of whitebeard and rogers final conversation as best friends/enemies. I mean...it's just so perfect

There's a trivia about the white beard's brazilian voice actor, he was an old guy who had some health problems, and the guy who was directing him (zoro voice) at the time white beard first appear on the anime wayyy back before marine ford knew that marine ford was going to take a while, so they already recorded all the voices for marine ford at that time... When they get to the point of everyone record marine ford the guy was too sicck to do it but the director already got the work recorded years ago and the guy couldn't work or pay his bills, so 'zoro' just marked the work as ''done'' and used the recordings and pay the guy to help him, years later (2024) the marine ford arch gets published os netflix dubbed in portugese and the guy had already passed away...'Zoro' Risked hiw job to help the guy in need.. So imagine for brazilians hearing a voice of a pretty important voice actor at his prime who already passed away being brought back to life to portrait a experienced pirate like white beard and ending his career with this kind of words like ''i've been traveling for a long time, it was a great voyage!' The brazilian zoro (director until now), luffy and usopp have a channel called Mistubukai where they dub the chapters every week and interview people, it's a love for one piece that i cannot explain in a comment, and 'zoro' explain this story on the channel, the video is called ''A VOZ QUE NEM A MORTE CALOU''- ''the voice that not even death shut, if guys are interested in knowing in first hand, i guess is the first time in an anime of a post mortem voice acting being published... much love, keep it up with the journey

Oda likes handicapping some characters to keep things difficult to pin down exactly where they stand, like Zoro over and over. With WB here he was handicapped to keep the world and the New World more mysterious. We got enough to realize that there's more than anything we've seen so far, but didn't see all the stuff that will figure in later. Let the main characters find these things along their journey through the Grand Line, and audience/readers along with them. People are still trying to figure out certain things that happened at Marineford. I hope that Oda spells some of them out specifically at some point through character PoV or the Q&As that he does in the volume releases.

Growing up is realising that Whitebeard wasn’t even in the Top 3 on Marineford. Akainu tanked all his rage filled attacks and was still ready to throw hands a few moments later… This would’ve been a massacre if Garp, Sengoku, Aokiji and Kizaru were as bloodlusted as Akainu is.

3 notable things that were different in the Manga: 1. Whitebeard had to sucker-punch Akainu while he was distracted by his attempt to go after Luffy, unlike in the Anime, where Akainu quite literally craps his pants and can't dodge the world's slowest punch because of fear. 2. Akainu's "Meigo" actually removes half of Whitebeard's head. 3. Whitebeard doesn't give a damn about losing half his face and immediately hits Akainu with that earthquake punch that shatters the island. In the Anime, he tosses Akainu into the air, and for some reason, an Admiral-level fighter is helpless or cannot perform Geppo (that Rokushiki technique where they walk in the air). The Anime SERIOUSLY made Akainu look weaker.

Ace died because of Ace. First of all, Whitebeard prohibited him for searching for Blackbeard. This act however saved Luffy because he was Blackbeard target. Then he was saved by Luffy. Everyone screaming to just run away, not to be baited by Akainu. Of course Luffy stayed and waited for Ace. If he just ran away, he would be alive by now.
