Having started with Bill Joy's vi, and then vim and now neovim (I am ancient, and got to this stuff through research physics) I tune to that. It makes it fun, to fiddle with it; even if no-one else in their right mind would want to do it my way. And it does improve effectiveness. Injecting fun into your work is A Very Good Thing.

Damit Breno, I was a Lego kid growing up. I did not need this motivation to sort out the finishing touches (LSP fine tuning/auto formatting etc) on my Neovim setup. I have other deadlines! ;)

Basically I started my journey with neovim this summer. And I can’t imagine I’ll ever switch back. Kind of same feeling after 12 years of coding.

"Don't use it because you want to be faster." It took me a long time to get that in my head. I hope between Neovim and Doom Emacs (currently Doom Emacs) and let me tell you. Neither is faster than VS Code or JetBrains IDEs and likely won't be until I've been using one professionally full time for at least 5 years. But what it is, is more fun. Using Neovim or Emacs is like turning your work environment into a playground, gamifying your work skill development and helping reduce burnout.

For the longest time I was too "confirmist" (for a lack of a better word) and kept using Windows and VSCode. Nothing wrong with them by itself, I got to do stuff done and specially managed to do my uni assignments, but the other day I decided to finally give it a proper go and tried out Linux Mint with Neovim in a VM. What can I say man, even note taking just feels more enjoyable and I feel like I'm more in the zone, I just cannot love it enough. That plus also changing my OS theme without having to install packages that complete rewrite and only through downloading a few files? Yes please

For me, vim bindings make writing code more fun, it's like I'm playing street fighter or something, I wanna get somewhere and do something and it's a keyboard combo to do it and when I pull it off I get a little buzz and think next time I'll do it even faster. I felt like VS code was getting in my way a bit of being able to do that, whereas Neovim I don't

You've made the right choice, my guy. Vim, and Neovim specifically, is just the best text/code editor out there, none can compete in terms of performance to capabilities. Emacs has its place, of course, not to detract from it, but it's way more of a Lisp tool than a more general one, and it has some glaring issues like the dreaded long lines and pretty bad built-in terminal, let alone its performance. I still do use VSCode for some things, but I use Neovim for almost everything, and it works really well.

Most sane video I've ever seen on youtube. I personally use Neovim for most of my work and sometimes I also use VS Code. People think that when you choose some editor you are going to stuck it for whole life. And some thinks One is greater than other. This is just nonsense. Everything is great when it align with your motive. It might be vim at a time and vscode at another. Same with operating systems. I use arch BTW. But I dont hate windows or mac or praise linux for no reason. Come on!! we are humans. We shouldn't be doing all the same thing others doing. If it had been so then there would be no point of us being human. Thank you. Thats my time. Good night!!!

i absolutely love neovim. I hate configuring it tho. Its a pain in the ass. I have it set up exactly how I want it and I loathe the day I have to touch the config again. I use lazyvim, which thank the stars is the greatest thing. VIM isnt all about speed. Its more about comfort imo. Everything I do is just a click away. I dont have to keep clicking the mouse. ugggg clicking the mouse... Using the mouse while coding is so goofy imo. The main reason I use it tho is because I have control and I dontt get a bunch of bloat and pop ups and wack stuff like that. I also managed to get absolutely every single feature of vscode that I need in my neovim.

I started using neovim for the past 2 months, started with the primeagen guide. I program dotnet, angular, flutter, all setup and working, debugging etc... but I complete disagree with your statement at 1:41. I dont own anything, far from that, now my workflow depends on open source code provided by at least 50 people. If any of then stops some project, or just dont update anymore my workflow breaks. It feels like when I was using vscode, I only have to rely on microsoft, now, I need to rely on so much people... I guess time will tell if it was a mistake
