Nice solo play, I like how you learn as you play. I've tried strider mode once and died before even facing an enemy. Two terrible failures in a row on travel.

FL should send replacement dice if you contact them. They are aware of the issue and have the corrected dice. It’s odd that they are still sending out bad dice when they have the replacements available. Maybe your slipped through. Thanks for the solo play through.

I got mine replaced in about a week from them to Ontario. Came in a massive 2x2x2' box filled with packing peanuts and a little envelope inside with the dice. Was a bit overkill. Glad to have the replacements though.

Good timing I was just about to start my own strider campaign. My understanding is that early on (and especially solo) the system is assuming you are using hope points pretty liberally until you are rolling 4d6 on your more important skills. Hopefully that helps the bad luck you got hit with this episode!

Yeah I got confused and spent fellowship points instead of hope. Fellowship refills hope I believe.

@@TheBasicExpert Don't forget Strider Feature. Any time you spend hope on a journey you are inspired on the skill roll and gain 2d6 instead of 1d6.

Easy fix for your dice. Count 11 as 1. But Free League are aware of the issue and should replace them also.

Your Feat dice are the wrong ones. Send those back. The first initial run were made wrong and had Sauron, 2-11 and then Gandalf. It should be 1-10, Sauron, Gandalf.

The die don't have to be wrong... look at a d10 and a d12, there are 2 extra sides, so 11 and 12 are different. I figured they're simply using the 11 as the Eye of Sauron (Mordor), and the 12 as Gandalf's Glyph. Rather than that they're wrong. I use 2d6 and make the eye and glyph more rare, Snake Eyes d6 =1 and d6 = 1 is an eye, and box-cars 2 6's are glyphs. So you're "ruling" that they're Orcs, not using the Strider Solo-play aspect of asking the 'Oracle' of Tale Telling to discover what you're facing. And 'ruling' that they're surprised, surprise, you're running the game, not 'playing' the game.

Should you have thematically described the encounter instead of having a combat encounter? Journeys should only include combat if you have a Noteworthy result. So, for this instance, you succeed in the roll so were aware of them before they saw you, but you would know some orcs are on the prowl in that area. Combats, councils, and other "roll opportunities" are after journeys or, in rare cases, noteworthy events. Also, it notes that if you are returning, no rolls are needed, and you are assumed to make it successfully; so if you are constantly losing on your way there and when you look at your total fatigue/shadow/etc and determine that you'd show up, but you'd die if a stiff breeze hit; you could retrace your steps and live to fight another day.

The map itself came with The One Ring 2e. The program I'm playing the game in is called Foundry. It's a bit wonky to set up, but once it is, it is very powerful and a good VTT. If I am going to make a map digitally, I use worldographer. Thanks for the comment. Hope you enjoy playing TTRPGs and get addicted like the rest of us!

You may have caught this already. One thing to watch is when you get a piercing blow on an enemy, they get the chance to make a protection roll. (Feat die plus d6s equal to their armor rating. 2d6 in the case of orc soldiers.) That might not have made a difference since they would need an 18 to survive. If you really want to make things hard on yourself, the orcs could also have spent Hate points to give themselves another 1d6 on their attack and protection rolls. Good times. 😆

@@TheBasicExpert It's a lot to keep track of. I'm excited to try the Skirmish Stance and go all Legolas on some enemies. You really need to be a good archer to make that work though.

A little tricky at first but I think it's a relatively straightforward game once you get it. Solo gaming it has been good for to master the system before bringing it to a table full of players.

Quick question, on the oracle you rolled an 11 on the feat dice, doesnt that make the answer no but with a twist?

My dice are misprinted. 11 is supposed to be the sauron eye.

What's special about the dice? Is it just the 12 that's special?

The d12 is supposed to be numbered 1 to 10 with 11 being the eye of sauron (auto failure) and 12 being the Gandalf rune (auto success). The D6s also are different with 1 to 3 being drawn differently, hollow, and 4, 5, and 6 being solid. When you have some bad conditions going on, the hollow numbers are to be read as 0.
