It's so sad that the series has to be so mediocre and such a barrage of cliches derived from Dragon Ball and other shonen anime. Heck, I've even noticed how the main character, who is such a blatant expy of Kid Goku that the animators aren't even trying to hide this fact, barely appears in fanart and even official promotional art, focusing more on the adult side characters that sometimes aren't even that important.

Son Goku from _Dragonball_ actually based off Sun Wukong (The Monkey King) from Chinese novel _Journey to the West_ so to speak.

The side characters have more interesting stories sometimes because they are based off of real historical figures (sometimes). I really didn't care about the main character kid at all. But Goku is actually based off of a Chinese legend so in terms of copyright I think you got it backwards. But it's fine honestly, stories inspire stories. Nothing wrong with that.

everyone has their different tastes. the series is very touching and all of the characters sink deep into the heart. I agree though, the main character isn't so interesting after the first season. the side characters take so much more center stage, but then again this series is supposed to be an ensemble cast. My favorite characters are actually the adult 'side characters'. The series is not derived from Dragon Ball but actually a novel of the same name which is based very loosely on the events of the Qin Dynasty.
