I still remember watching and hearing a CBX1000 with a 6 into 1 exhaust doing drag races at Manfeild race circuit a long time ago. The sound was unbelievable!!

i had one, a '79, had a 6 into 1 DG header that when you opened it up, sounded like a ferrarri. also, the only 4 stroke i have ever seen that had a power band like a 2 stroke, you hit about 7000 - 7500 rpm and you better be holding on cause it would come unglued.

Yes I know-i had one. An awsome motor looks wise-- and when you wound it up it sounded phenomenal, like a turbo-charged turbine-- but a complex motor to work on if you ever had to.😱 Luckially I never had to. My GS 1100 SUZUKI " 78-79 or80 ltd< which I much prefered over the stock modle> was much easier to work on. For one it had screw +nut valve adjustment compared to the Kaw "shim"👎 arrangement.😖 Was quicker+faster than the kaw 1300 green🐘, lighter+more nimble thru the turns.👍

Inline six is the best concept for all fourstrokers. Best balance, best sound - made by Honda. CBX for ever. Flat six is following and again performed by Honda. VR6 is a roughly running mechanism, no silk inside, only beats inline 4s. Even the inline 3 of the Yamaha XS750/850 are coming with an healthier acoustic beat. A beat that rev's your heart.

I have ridden the 1979, 1980, and the 1982 CBX extensively. I had a friend that kept buying new ones as they came out with new models. He loved the six-cylinder. riding the CBX what’s different, you didn’t feel like you were sitting in the bike, you felt like you were sitting on the bike, like you weren’t really part of it. I liked the red highlighted gauges at night. It was smooth, but the funny thing is, it was wide, but only 20 mm wider than the CB 750. it was a nice bike, but I didn’t want one.. my buddy offered two of them to me when he wanted to move up to his next bike and his next bike.. I think they made 102 hp or something like that in 1979. Then it was slightly detuned due to European horsepower restrictions to just under 100 hp. That is also when they put the top speed display on the speedometer is at 85 miles an hour as though that was gonna stop people from going over 85 miles an hour if anything it encouraged people to go over 85 miles an hour which I never really did on the street, even though I was road racing motorcycles for eight years up to that point winning six championships, two time national champion. I just didn’t like going fast on the street ever. you can never ride above 7/10 on the street. I don’t care who you are. You can never be 100% confident that things are clear around that corner… If you want all out performance bike during this era, the first one was the Yamaha XS 1100, then a month later it was the CBX that took the top spot, then the suzuki, GS 1000 chain drive e model was the quickest and would actually go around Bends which the Yamaha would not, and it was much better on the road race track than the CBX. In my eight years of road racing I only saw one CBX at the tracks. The width of the engine just made them not survive, even minor crashes. The Kawasaki, two stroke triples suffered from the same design flaw, they did not survive, racetrack crashes either, and they had lots of them because those Kawasaki 500 & 750 two stroke triples were evil handlers. Skinny frame, tubes, skinny, fork, tubes, skinny, swing, arms, on wire wheels, over sprung underdamped, shocks, all, made them worse.. i was there-

When FortNine did a video about the CBX, he mentioned that "people" were trying to find the original "jet fighter" exhaust prototype for it. Does anyone here have any further info about that endeavor? PS I have a GoldWing 1500. I put extra stainless steel wool in the exhaust to make this super-quiet bike even quieter. I like my motorcycle(s) to sound as quiet as a car, not noisy at all!

De Tomaso cludged together cars from Murikan motors and Italian bodies, the Benelli six was based on the design of a Honda 500 four, the best motorcycle Benelli ever made was their 50 cc two stroke of the late 60s and early 70s, that is if you go by quality. The cbx always looked too wide, was too heavy and I'll say without a shadow of doubt that my moto guzzi 850 sounded, handled and looked better than the Honda.
