I play the smith morra gambit against the sicilian and black doesnt know what to do most of the time and end up in a sucky position. Atleast in my elo range (1500 - 1600) Edit: yay I am 1800 elo now
@ClariseFamily2 ай бұрын
Ya cause u vs patzers 1600s are patzers
@abuthahirumarhathab42012 ай бұрын
@@ClariseFamily I mean yeah. We 1600s do suck and we know it 😅. But most folks are below this elo anyway. Also smith morra gambit is a legit and sound opening against Sicilian. Sound because u don't have a easy refutation of that gambit. And it is practical too.i know little theory and I am just winning a lot of matches when opponents play Sicilian anyway. But when u know all theory of that opening ( smith morra gambit is surprisingly more theoretical), u will dominate even master level players. Like Marc esserman plays this opening and he beats IMs, GMs, etc not just in blitz, bullet and rapid but also classical. I am not saying sicilian is a bad opening. Just that white players have some aggressive weapons against it.

Hm, actually the Scheveningen is a really smart recommendation for lower elo, I doubt anyone in that range knows how to punish it correctly. I myself am a bit scared to play it though, I enjoy the overall structure and development, but the lines with an early g4 and crazy attacking just worry me a little bit
@TheSwagDawgАй бұрын
Honestly I think the two best Sicilian openings for intermediate level are the *Sicilian Dragon* and the *Sicilian Kan* . The Dragon is more of a tactical opening and the Kan is more of a positional one. The Sicilian Kan actually has around a 53% win rate, which is actually crazy considering it's an opening for black.

My go to opening for black (if my opponent plays the Italian) is the Rousseau gambit, it's free ELO.

The computer engine hates it and thinks it's bad for black, but in reality it actually has a CRAZY win rate. Computers are cyborgs and they come up with crazy ways to refute openings. Against humans though, it's good.

Alessia, I generally agree with you, but not here. What I find is that every white player has a pet line against the Sicilian and there are like 20 different systems against the Sicilian, not to mention move order tricks, transpositions and gambits. Thus if you don't want to just lose ELO, you have to be booked up to play any main line Sicilian like Classical, Schev, Najdorf or Dragon or even Shvesh/Kalashnikov, just at club level. Maybe against a random you'll be able to easily dominate, but anyone at club level or above has to be booked up to play it.

I dont know who you are playing against, but from my experience like 80% of the time people just treat the sicilian like an Italian and go Nf3 Bc4 and so on. The other 15 % are people that play the Smith Morra, which you can avoid btw and enter more solid lines, and 5% are just nonsense where you can develop your pieces normally without any issues.

@@durandekamga2298 Both caro nd french are good imo.. e5 is also a very solid option but you gotta learn how to counter the King's gambit or the fried liver attack as everyone jst spams that as a response to e5 at that level.. Some nifty players also like to play openings like the vienna, ponziani or bishop opening as well so i can guess why you'd struggle with e5 so much.. I would recommend the caro, since it's what i mostly play, also bcoz it's pretty ez nd opponents below 1500 jst don't have a good weapon against it.. Most of the time you r going to get a pretty dominant position nd a good game.. Bt that's my recommendation anyway🤔
