💡Did you know that after Sicily was liberated, the Allied military government (AMGOT) faced challenges in maintaining order? Removing fascist leaders created a power vacuum, and the mafia seized the opportunity to fill key roles with their supported individuals. Mafia-backed Sicilian separatists, such as Lucio Tusca (who became the acting mayor of Palermo) and The Duchess of Chizarro, took on significant political positions. The Allies didn't intend to restore mafia influence; it somewhat slipped past their notice, especially as the mafia had gained sway during the war when the Nazis left the island. The unintended resurgence of mafia power highlighted the complexities of post-liberation governance in Sicily. 18:50

💡Did you know that not all US mobsters hated Mussolini? Vito Genovese, a notorious mobster, had a fascinating relationship with il Duce. In 1934, he ordered the "taking out" of Ferdinand Boccia over a card game betrayal. Fleeing to Italy in 1937, Genovese developed ties with powerful fascist figures, including Mussolini's son-in-law. He donated nearly $4 million to the Mussolini's party, and received multiple awards. 10:15

Vito seemed to play any side which would benefit himself. He worked with Mussolini and I believe gave him a million dollars. But when the tide turned he worked with the allies. Didn't he have a theft ring where he stole American supplies to sell them? Geneovese was all for himself.

Vito Genovese for example became very good friend with mussolini, and was awarded with some rackets. As soon as he lost the war, vito was becoming american hearted again, came to conclusion his true roots are over seas... in america... ran a crime family there a few years...

Cesare Mori, is a name that still stings in the memory of the Sicilian underworld, and let me tell you, his rise was a force to be reckoned with. This was the guy that Mussolini appointed to crush the mafia. Mori was actually a former cop, who developed quite a reputation of being a “man of action”. And to ensure he could operate as efficiently as possible, listen to this. In a telegram Mussolini wrote to Mori: "Your Excellency has “carte blanche”, the authority of the State must absolutely, I repeat absolutely, be re-established in Sicily. Should the laws currently in effect hinder you, that will be no problem, we shall make new laws." Yes, you heard that right. He had the full backing of Mussolini himself to achieve his mission, by any means necessary, no matter the implications.

That's correct. The first mission. Vito Scaletta was in the army, during World War 2. He fought in Sicily, Italy. Calogero "Don Calò" Vizzini is the "Sicilian Mafia" godfather. He came out in a military tank and told the Nazi's and US troops to stop fighting. The Nazi troops place their guns down and surrendered.

Great historical analysis. Il Duce was the only political leader in Italy, who really crucked Cosa Nostra. But he couldn't totally eliminated them, because this Honorata Societa, is not just a criminal organisation, but a "State inside the State", deeply established in the culture of Sicily, not since 19th century, but since the Roman Empire. Mussolini was stupid to not make them his allies, but hunt them down. By the one or the other way, Cosa Nostra would had reclaim its Power and ruled again its Kingdom, Sicily!!!

Good Evening Sir Could you please make an analysis about the Power of my favourite Godfather, the Great, Don Giuseppe "Joe the Boss" Masseria? The Boss was the most Powerful gangster, America has ever seen. He was the one who kept alive the crushed Morello Borgarta. He was the one, who by the mid 20s, had overpowered the official Capo dei Capi, Don Salvatore D'Aquila and the outsider kingpins, like the j#w, Arnold Rothstein. Frankie Yale as his caporegime. In the "Gold Year", 1928, it was Masseria who gave the ok/order to Al Capone, for having Yale whacked, because the 2nd had stole Capone's liquor. The Boss ordered Yale's death, because he had switched sides to D'Aquila. As a reward for Yale's hit, Capone got made a caporegime in the Masseria Family and had the authority by the Don, to himself made 10 soldiers, that's why he was reffering as "capodecina" or "capo dei decina". July, Yale got killed, October, D'Aquila and November, Rothstein, in order to fully dominate the Tammany Hall(the Boss gave the job to Dutch Schultz). In December, Don Giuseppe Masseria, got finally enthroned as the Capo dei Capi. He was now controlling, except from his own Family (who was the biggest in the country, aparted by at least 600 soldiers), the former D'Aquila now Mineo (Gambino) Family, the Reina (Luchesse) Family, the Chicago Outfit (according to an FBI file of the statement of Milwaukee informant, August "Augie" Maniaci, Capone was giving Masseria huge paymnents for Protection due to his conflict with Godfather Giuseppe Aiello-he wasn't afraid Aiello, but his compares across the country, the Castellamareses, so Masseria was keeping thing in line, so the two Chicago gangsters were fighting by their forces, without real support by allies). Joe the Boss was also having control over Clevelant, Detroit (partly), Florida and other cities across the country. His networth was estimated to 70 BILLION DOLLARS in today's money. Like New York Police had reported for Masseria: "He was the King of fish (meaning his dominance over the lucrative Fulton Fish Market), wine and booze. He was a force, mysteriously even to his countrymen, way bigger than the names who are in the papers. He was the Bigger of them all. Bigger than Al Capone. Not even a slice of spaghetti was getting sold, without him taking tribute". Police was afraid that after the Boss's murder, there was gonna be a war, like nothing New York had seen, which would had burnt the city. Of course, we know that it was an "inside job", orchestrating by Masseria's beloved protege and chief lieutenant, Salvatore Lucania, aka Charlie "Lucky" Luciano. The assassins, were not the "infamous four", Genovese, Adonis, Anastasia and Siegel (with Ciro Terranova as the scared driver-such a rediculous story), but Johnny "Silk Stockings" Giustra and his right-hand man, Carmelo Liconti, both Brooklyn waterfront racketeers, connected with Vincenzo Mngano, who was responsible for the security during the dinner in Coney Island (it was his territory-like the "Tessio thing"). Mangano was part of Luciano's cabal, later rewarded by becoming the boss of his Family. They had arranged this duo for the contract, because they weren't very tied to Masseria, so, if something went wrong, it would had been more believable to the Family, that they had sided with Maranzano. This wasn't a regular contract. Joe the Boss, was the most Powerful Godfather in the whole country. It was needed a way bigger motive than a heavy envelope. They had promised them, a bigger piece of the waterfronts. The hit was succeeded. The restaurant owner, Gerardo Scarpato, was also in the plot, but after realising in what he had participated, he was so scared for the Vendetta by the Masseria loyalists, that he gave the Police his fingerprints, in case they found him dead. Giustra and Liconti, maybe had got the job done, but they had left evidences behind. The Police was suspecting them, but that wasn't their problem. The Masseria soldiers, knew that both the three men were involved in their Godfather's murder. Luciano, and his cabal, knew that if the soldiers would had found out the conspiracy, they all would had been in the barrels. So, the "greaving for Masseria" Luciano, gave the order to avenge the Boss and punish the traitors-assassinos. May 10, 1931. Giustra and Liconti were called to Manhattan, to "resolve a territorial dispute". It was a set-up. They both would have been killed there and then, but Liconti had car trouble and was late to the appointment. The body of Giustra, was found riddled with bullets. When Liconti learned of Giustra's death, he nervously went in hiding, but not for long. His corpse was discovered in the Hotel Paramount on July 9. He had been choked and stabbed to death. The 3rd in the "Joe the Boss Avenging List", was the weasel-restauranteur, Scarpato. He was so scared, that he had left US with his wife, going to Italy. However, for unclear reason, the stronzo returned in New York the next September and of course, got caught by the Boss's "Crusaders". They let's say, used all their art on him and after finishing the "painting", they put him (whatever had left from him) in a sack. Luciano was so "Lucky" (and this time), to pretend the Man of Honor the very right moment, before Don Masseria's "artists", putted him in their "gallery"!!! P.S. I know I wrote a lot, but I had to give you as much information I could. Please, make the video. The Boss deserves it, and it will be a magnificent history video for your channel!!! Thank you in advance

(A late comment.) That was very interesting! (And the scene towards the end of the clip of a Vatican/Catholic official lighting a cigarette was even more "striking"! {I didn't know that they smoke!}) The gambit of getting the Sicilian Mafia bosses in Italy to assist the allied forces in WW2 by soliciting the help of the then American Mafioso, "boss of bosses", one Charles "Lucky" Luciano, was a master stroke! Because on the American side of things, it's a BIG "no no" in the Mafia to get involved with the American Government's affairs! (This is what got Sam Giancana, Johnny Roselli and others "deleted", btw!) But during that time period, Luciano was already permanently exiled back to Italy where the Mafia rules were different or they made an exception to based on their then, current circumstances. Good short video clip! ✌️😐

I like the turn you take into pure history here. To bring it back to the Godfather movies, an old friend of mine once pointed out that when Vito returns to Sicily in Part II, the people who meet him at the train station have communist flags, which gives the scenes with Michael in Cuba some interesting additional context. Any thoughts on this?

@truthteller4442
@truthteller4442 Жыл бұрын
The Italians were some of the best, fiercest, bravest, and most elite fighting soldiers on the battlefield. Especially in World War 1. You should study up on the Italian “Arditi.” In regard to World War 2, the Italian army received little promised support from Hitler, and Italian leadership was bad because Mussolini only listened to and appointed inexperienced political cronies. They were giving soldiers tactics and directives from World War 1 that were very outdated, as World War 2 saw advanced technology brought to the battlefield. Hitler became too antsy and also forced the Italians into battle 5 years before it was supposed to begin. The Italians hadn’t even started building all their military weapons and vehicles. This was the biggest thing/reason that handcuffed them. There was also little will to fight for Mussolini, as most Italian citizens and soldiers did not like him as the war went on. They were especially not fond of invading Greece, a country and people that they considered like brothers and no different from themselves. Mussolini and Hitler were both very fond of the Greek people, however they agreed that an invasion of Greece was necessary to thwart any attempts of the Allies to dominate that important port and entry point into Italy. The brilliant German General, Rommel, was always complimentary to his Italian soldiers in North Africa. He even stated in his memoirs, “The German soldier has awed the world…..the Italian soldier has awed the German soldier.” He went on….. “The Italians were willing, unselfish and good comrades in the frontline. There can be no disputing that the achievement of all the Italian units, especially the motorised elements, far outstripped any action of the Italian Army for 100 years. Many Italian generals and officers earned our respect as men as well as soldiers.” The vast majority of troops Rommel commanded in North Africa were Italian, and they fought brilliantly under his command. They easily took over, dominated, and controlled North Africa for most of the war. But they ultimately succumbed due to the Allies having much more resources once the Americans and their immense resources entered the battle. The North African battlefront started to become nothing more than an afterthought once Hitler and the Germans starting taking defeats in battles in Europe and his territory started shrinking there.

He did, an Empire larger than Germany's in fact. His mistake was trusting Hitler and Germans...the historic TeutonicTwoTimers. They betrayed him breaking the Pact of Steel only 4 months after signing which had stipulated Italy be given 3 more years to prepare. Learn some history.

That’s so dumb. 1. “Make ___ great again” is the idea behind all fascist movements. That’s what a reactionary movement is. 2. This video isn’t exactly trying to paint Mussolini in a bad light especially when you consider the other videos on this channel
