Hey everyone, To be clear, this is the older version of the pack. Some of you have told me the newer version has some upgrades, but I still think the older one is a solid choice. At the end of the day, find out which one is best for you, and tell us which one you're going to get!

Yes the new version has hip pockets, which is one of your main complaints about this version. Solid upgrade by the looks of it.

Thanks for the review! It helped me decide to buy it. I've taken it on two shake-down walks of 4 and 6 miles, with about 20 pounds of stuff in it, and I like it so far. Going to do the first seven sections of the Lone Star Trail next week to make sure I want to use it in the mountains this summer. FYI - The Lone Star Trail is very flat and very easy. If I don't like the Exos there, then I won't like it anywhere. Mine came with the hip-belt pockets, but the way they are fitted you almost need two hands to zip it back up once you unzip it. But at least it has them. Other reviews talked about how great the side pockets are, and that you can get your water bottle in and out without taking off the pack. Maybe it's because I am older and not so limber any more, but there is no way on earth I will ever be able to re-insert a one-liter water bottle with the pack on. On a plus note - I can get the water bottle out just fine without having to stop. All-in-all, I like the simplicity of the pack and look forward to using it. I'm hoping it is turns out to be comfortable on longer hikes. My other packs are the Osprey ACE 50 and the Ascend Rattlesnake 55. The ACE 50 is a lot like the Exos but with bottom zippered access to the main compartment and a main compartment divider. Very nice pack with plenty of torso adjustment. Perfect for a teen-ager who is still growing (my son uses it a lot). For anyone thinking about getting a Cabela brand pack, the Rattlesnake 55 is pretty nice. It is heavy by today's standards at 5.5 pounds, but it is VERY comfortable. There is definitely a weight vs comfort tradeoff factor that comes into play, but I'll carry extra weight any day if it means my back and neck don't hurt. 5.5 pounds sounds like a lot, but it is just about one-liter of water heavier than the Exos 58 L/XL. It has tons of pockets on it which makes it super easy to organize stuff, and the main compartment has zippered access from both sides, meaning you don't have to unload everything from the top to get to that item in the middle or bottom. I took the Ascend up to Cottonwood Lakes, slack-packed up to Whitney, and then finished up at Whitney Portal. I would do it again with that pack (FYI - that's me and my son in my profile picture on top of Whitney ). Sorry - pretty much got into a review of the Ascend. Thanks again for the review!

The new 2022 version has hip pockets now! It also has an adjustable torso, making it one of the only packs that fit me. Nice review!

I didn't realize they made a new version! I got this pack in 2021 and I'm still pretty happy with it. Thanks for letting us know about the new one!

Hope they make the new one in waterproof material...
@AmanLuthra2 жыл бұрын
That would be nice, but keep in mind that most packs are not waterproof. You can always get a pack cover though, which is my recommendation.

Just bought this bag. It was the only backpack in REI to fit a tall frame. All the backpacks quoted as having L size going up to 23" torso, but didn't. This pack has at least another inch on the fit compared with the other models. Looking at your review, I'm happy i got the exos.

Yeah I also got my pack fitted at REI. Glad you're liking it!

i have a gen.2 EXOS sie large (62 liters) foe 3 season backpacking. For winter ski camping I have a Deuter Air Contact 65+10 for the bulkier gear. There is no pack best for all seasons unless it is greatly expandable with add-on volume.

Yes, I didn't realize they made a new one when making this video. The old one is still a great pack though!

@@AmanLuthra I sewn some thin memory foam to the underside of the shoulder straps to give them more structure as I found them a bit too squishy.
@zaperovski2 жыл бұрын
Hi, does it have straps underneath so you can strap a folded tent to it? Thank you
@AmanLuthra2 жыл бұрын
Yes, there are straps at the bottom where you can have a tent, sleeping pad, and more.

For How many days can we hike in it?
@AmanLuthra2 жыл бұрын
With a full load, probably 7 days is my guess, but that’s highly variable depending on what you carry and how fast you use your consumables like food. The best way to find out is with experience.

A day hike??? man I'm looking to do a week hike. Guess this is not for me
@AmanLuthra2 жыл бұрын
This pack isn’t meant to be a day pack. It’s made for overnight and thru hikes so you can definitely use it for a week, but I also find it useful as a day pack.
@oldguy8078 Жыл бұрын
I was told that a 45/48 liter pack is all that you should need. So the 58 should be good for all hikes. At the end of the day, how much weight do you want to carry?
