Synchro summoning requires you to add (oh no, basic math) the levels of the monsters together and bring out a monster that has that EXACT total of levels. You also need a tuner monster, but that's no different than having a monster with polymerization stuck (heh) to the back.

Kite only dueled Yuma half as many times as Shark did and it was extremely one sided. Meanwhile Shark and Yuma have both won against each other making the rivalry more even. Heck, after Kite became Yuma's friend he stopped dueling him and he had his own rival which was Mizar. Shark however dueled him in every single season. By the time they dueled Don thousand Yuma and Shark were way above Kite considering how easily Don thousand beat Mizar who was equal to Kite.

He’s also the resident dragon user. Part of his antagonism at first is because of his little brother, who is being used against him by the main antagonist of the season. Galaxy-Eyes and Blue-Eyes are even complimentary to each other because of how similar their stats are.

Reiji has level 8 dark fiends, and his Fusions don't follow any of that criteria and while he has a little brother it isn't the main cause of his antagonism. Just because there's similarities between two characters it doesn't mean they fulfill the same role. Like I said Shark and Yuma dueled way more, they both won and lost against each other making them have an even rivalry, and they both lead to their own character development, if Kite really was Yuma's rival they would've dueled way more instead of 3 times and would've had a final climactic duel but that's what Shark did instead. Most of these are textbook rival roles.

Rank up spells are not a special mechanic they just summon an xyz from the extra deck. Xyz summoning using an existing xyz monster is still just xyz summoning. Edit: the xyz summoning using an existing xyz monster is mentioned in case you say you weren't referring to rank up spells for "rank up xyz evolution" and instead to summoning things like C39 utopia ray.

Both are done by Kaito, whos deck was built with the power of "other dimensions". The only reason I knew who it was is because in Zexal I think there were only Xyz summons all the way through at least that I can remember. But also in the first half of the Zexal era Konami was weirdly opposed to printing anything for the extra deck other than Xyz monsters. They were pushing the new mechanic WAY too hard and there was a lot of community push back. The first really good card that came out for the extra deck that wasn't an Xyz Monster was in Cosmo Blazer with Crimson Blader. It was supposed to be support for Fire Fist but was and still is an amazing generic Level 8 Synchro.

Yeah the more I think about it yeah this is true, Zexal had by far the oddest decks of the whole franchise with alot of stuff being "archetype" like yet not owning to a name brand and this is q really crazy occurrence considering the fact that I believe that out of all of the yugioh animes Zexal was by far the most restrictive given the fact they never veered outside of xyz summons outside of maybe one character fusion summoning some kind of magnet dragon or something Zexal was a great series yet a very confusing one

Hilariously, Yusei already had an Anti-Machine Emperor card: Turbo Warrior. It is unaffected by the effects of Level 6 and lower monsters, and all the Machine Emperors were Level 1.

Out of all these series I think Arc-V and the OG are my favorites. I watched all of Zexal with my son when it came out every Saturday morning and that show got me back into collecting and eventually playing again. I never saw 5D's and gotta get around to that one day so unfortunately I can't say much about it. GX was pretty cool but never finished that and I haven't seen the last two series yet. I watched the first episode of Vrains but at the time I was watching too many shows and just never bothered with it. That being said, man was Arc-V super cool, I really liked how all the summoning mechanics had their own little dimensions and were at war with one another. The whole 5Ds/ Synchro arc was the best one and my favorite archetype of all time was in that series being Fluffals/Frightfurs. My cousin/best friend bought me a preconstructed deck for my birthday and from then on that's been my main. To me no other archetype comes close, maybe Infernobles but even then, I just love how simple it is and easily they can end duels in a single turn. They've never seen a banlist and won't likely ever, unless Konami decides to limit Patchwork but I usually only run two of those anyways. So if anyone hasn't seen Arc-V yet, I highly recommend that one, it's got just as much cheese and anime BS as the OG series but it's still more faithful to the card game. So many cool cards came out at that time too, like Phantom Knights, Clear/Crystal Wing and Predaplants.

I remember explaining to my friend what is XYZ summoning, and said that it's like fusion without using polymerization and synchro combine and I just laughed. And he said cuz it's kinda true because if you use an overlay is basically the card's card effect but has a limited use and combining same level monster is like synchronization and polymerization cuz they can use 2-3 monster with the same level but can be any type of monsters sometimes.

During ZEXAL's run, I had conceptualized at the time the idea of "Xyz Fusions" based on two monter combinations: when C39 Utopia Ray fuse with ZW Leo Arms and they had this Utopia Leo Arms fusions, and then when Shark combined Black Ray Lancer with Submersible Carrier Aero Shark. I thought of this concept as a sort of "counter" to the Chaos Xyz monsters that the Barians were summmoning, partly inspired by 5Ds when Antinomy was trying to teach Yusei how to Accel Synchro as a counter to the Meklords. I never went too in detail except that the Monsters to be combined must have had the same Rank, and when they "fused" (which would be a Xyz monster) the Overlay Units would be passed on to the new summon

Fun fact: Yuma is also the only standard duel protagonist who does not possess a single Link monster support card. Yugi, Judai, Yusei, Yuya, and obviously Playmaker all have at least 1 Link monster that supports their legacy decks.

I know it's not a main mechanic, but Yuya also never Ritual Summoned - I'm still sad that it never happened, because, even during the runtime of the anime, there already existed an Odd-Eyes Ritual monster + he fought a ritual user too! (ofc ignoring the ritual pendulum monster which released afterwards, although seeing him use such a monster as well would have been epic, even just to fill all the combinations - Atleast I think it would have been)

Yusei actually fusioned twice. The first time was against one of the Meklord guys. This was rught before he Accel Synchro'd for the first time.

All the protagonists that have not Synchro Summoned: Yugi, Jaden, Yuma Yuga and Yudias. This was because Synchro Monsters, let alone Tuner monsters never existed in their time or universe. I believe that Zexal takes place in an alternate timeline than 5DS. In the episode where he used a statue deck, aka the episode that Ninja player shows up, I think his name was Kage, I remember watching all of Zexal, but I don't remember his name. All I know was that he was possessed by Number 12: Crimson Shadow Armor Ninja, causing him to be violent, aggressive and reckless.
