i'm not sure what state you are in but depending on your income, there may be some other things available to you. My mom was on Social Security after my dad passed and because it was so low, she was able to not pay the amount of money that is taken out of your Medicare for part b every month. She also qualified for a $300 heating oil allowance and a discount on her phone bill. Check with your local state representatives because they have all the forms. And you might also have a property tax rebate that's available for homeowners or renters. Maybe you're already doing this, but it's not welfare. I hope this helps you. And I know you'll be successful with your debt-free journey!

WOW.. Dave actually suggested that someone go take out debt. He suggested that the caller go get a loan on the house for the 50k to pay off his family debt.. which I get. It’s logical. But in many hundreds of hours of listening to the Ramsey platform, I’ve never heard him suggest someone go take out a loan for anything. Yes, work harder and pay off that debt be it family or business… but even for buying homes he says to rent until you can cash flow a home. Surprised me is all… (Though now that I think of it.. the only thing he supports going into debt for is a home. When you do manual underwriting. So he isn’t hard line against debt. Only supports it when it really makes sense)

Bad advice for that first caller, Dave. You are recommending that he withdraws money from his retirement account, which is likely down 20% - 25%, to pay off his house. You should know better than that. Now is a terrible time to withdraw money from a retirement account unless it is a genuine emergency. He will be taking a 20% - 25% loss on that withdraw. You need to first wait for the stock market to recover, which will likely be at some point in 2023 - 2024. He can afford to wait, Dave. Just terrible advice.
@flashthecorgi20532 жыл бұрын
He’s not taking much his house only needs 163k , he is 68 and he has about 710k in his account so yes he is locking in those losses but he is gaining peace and freedom from owing nobody anything so I think it’s worth it!

@@PhilipMarcYT I agree. My decision would be to minimize any risk to my assets such as a house. He still has 500k in his retirement account which will go back up when the stock market stabilizes. Take a look at your finances (checking account, debts, bills), sell what you don't need/want anymore, live on less than you make, make some sacrifices you're willing to live with, and you'll begin having savings. I used to be a Dave Ramsey fan and still sort of am, but I now tend to disagree with him more than I agree so I wouldn't take his advice as the definitive solution, rather instead a guideline and make improvements upon it. One example? He mocked the guy for being worried about digital currency which is a real threat, though Dave is unaware of how horrifying CBDC really is because he's so clueless. I sent this video to Joshua Fluke so maybe he'll roast Dave, too.

62degrees isn't that bad really. We didn't turn on our heat either during a quick cold spell for a week and the house stayed in the 60s. They make a nice income so it must seem easy for them to buy it--but if you don't actually USE fuel oil you have no idea how much it actually costs right now to fill up a 500 gallon tank for $5+/gallon and then depending on the house size and outside temperature do it again in 4 months. We used to have fuel oil so I know what it was like to drop $1000 at a time for oil fillups every few months in our small house... so glad I got rid of it last year.
