I've been away from Magic for awhile, but have played on and off since the 90's. I'm 34 now and have to say, these guides and insights are incredibly valuable. Thank you for taking the time to lay this out for the rest of us!

The wildcard bundles are for players playing in cash tournaments with known deck lists in the next week. Everyone else is better off playing a weaker version of the deck and just earning packs through play. Ed: I think the bundles only exist because those ‘pro’ players complained that they couldn’t just buy what they needed to qualify digitally.

Thank you for this! This was super well explained, and probably the best take I found on this. Much appreciated.

I think the only time you should buy the wildcards is if you know EXACTLY what you're looking for (rare lands immediately springs to mind here), especially if you've already built up quite the collection to the point where opening extra packs doesn't do anything for you.

Yeah that sums it up pretty well :)

I know this is an old video - but I really think buying wild cards is worth it - if you prefer the eternal formats - like historic brawl etc - if you play standard then the rare wild card bundle isn't worth it - and the mythic bundle is only worth it - if you don't want to grind - but if you want to build a specific brawl deck - which is what I mostly play right now - then they are really quite good value - I spend 50 bucks per month on magic - and I already have a pretty big collection - so I can usually complete a new competitive brawl deck every month buying wild cards - I also play a lot and open packs - so yeah - for eternal constructed formats I really feel it's worth it - especially if you only care about getting one copy of each card - or like playing a lot of different decks you found online - for specific commanders and stuff - thanks for the good analysis

In Canadian the Wild cards are more like 15$ for rares and 26$ for Myhtics :(

And what about this one time bundle 20 packs for 15 000 gold? It better than 15 packs for 15 000 gold incited You have na extra 5 pack, but is it stil worth it ?

Do you mean the Alchemy Pack Bundle? It depends mostly on whether you want to play Alchemy or not. If you don't play Alchemy, then I wouldn't get it, but if you do, then it's a good discount on the regular pack cost and it will still give you valuable Golden Pack progress and Wildcard Track progress too :)
@davidgrenier2181 Жыл бұрын
I actually bought that one, I got two Golden packs plus of course the 20 alchemy packs. Those packs include a slot for the retro artifacts, of which I got a couple of mithycs and several rares. All in all it was very worth the gold I spent for it, even if I play minimal amounts of Alchemy (just to keep in touch with tournaments/events basically)

I keep saying that buying wildcards is for people who can't do basic math! I do agree that it's really only for a desperate player building a "must-play" deck who needs the 4 wildcards for multi-lands or rares/mythics that are the engine for the deck. Cheers!

I think WotC is trying to determine a good price-point for the wildcard bundles. Previously they were available for 50$ (if memory serves they had 12 rares and 4 mythics? something like that). Maybe they'll lower the price at some point in the future.
@gameschooldadMTG Жыл бұрын
You're right about the previous wildcard bundle. They changed from that version to this one to make it more accessible. I'm guessing they'll take feedback from this offer and tweak it again.

the only things that have ever become cheaper, in my lifetime, are computers and cannabis.

I'd rather have the wide assortment of commons, uncommons, rares, and mythics from packs or drafting, no question. More cards equals more deckbuilding options. Wildcards are great, but I want the greatest possible assortment of options all available at once to make 20 or 30 different decks.

When should you buy wildcards? When you've just got too much money and really feel a need to give some to WotC because you want to help the 'less fortunate'... I honestly don't see any point in time where these bundles are an even halfway decent deal - it's easy enough to accumulate wildcards just through play and pack opening. Maybe we have to be a little more patient sometimes, and not immediately craft the newest greatest meta deck right now, but steady collection accumulation is the name of the game for free-to-play and if you're pumping money in to speed that up then there's so many better deals than straight buying a couple of wildcards.
@gameschooldadMTG Жыл бұрын
I'm expecting they will make the wildcard bundles cheaper in the future, because there's only a tiny fraction of situations where someone would even consider buying them honestly.

u know a card game is p2w when there is a tutorial on how to spend your money
@gameschooldadMTG Жыл бұрын
I think I need to make another video specifically addressing this, although I think I mention it pretty often... You absolutely DON'T need to spend any money on the game in order to 1) have fun and 2) win games. I make videos like this to help people make decisions on where to best spend their money if they want to, because the game has paid options that generally save time. Some people have more free time to build a collection gradually, and some people value their time more and would rather spend some amount of money to compensate for this. There's nothing wrong with spending money on a game if you find it valuable, or if you want to support the developer, but it's absolutely NOT required in any way. Thank you :)
@ThePhilosopher470 Жыл бұрын
@@gameschooldadMTG yes it doesn't follow the traditional ( 15 years b4 games ) p2w system .when people can take advantage of a farming system of a game with real money it's p2w but I mostly agree with u :D I didn't phrase my comment offensively but humorously :)

just never give them money until they fix the economy... its such a ripoff to make decks in arena right now
@gameschooldadMTG Жыл бұрын
Do you not get enough cards and wildcards from drafting or from packs to make the decks that you want to play with? What kind of fix do you think they should implement?

Trading money for a picture seems a bad idea to me. Just saying. If they let us trade eachother or trade in ones we dont want/need it would make more sense. I quit when they took commons such as lightning bolt, counterspell, dark ritual, etc. And slapped a rare symbol on them when they are not rare cards but commons and hid them inside strixhaven packs I might not even want or need. They are the biggest criminals in the world and wish people would show them this is not tolerable. They will sell you bundles of art but not cards, if this is not a slap in the face I dont know what is. Who tf paying $ for fake digital items that have no use if WoTc just gives up on Arena like they do most things eventually. Game used to take skill and creativity now its just a wallet race and same 6 or 8 decks competing bc nobody is original and they reprint too much. How many 1 drop elves that add mana and are identical do we need? Proves its just a money grab to me
