yes, this dark side of daytrading, or trading in general, is so important to know and be aware of. its so easy to slip into the darkness and not realizing it and then you are hit suddenly by fatigue, anger, insomnia etc. its important to take breaks, even for weeks if it must be, focus on 'easy' stuff that brings you joy and immediate reward. thats why its so important to neve quit your actual job prematurely, better to keep it for longer than necessary, even if you start being consistently profitable with your trading. having that guaranteed income month after month is definitely taking off some pressure during trading, for me at least.

I've watched dozens of videos on this channel and I think this may be the most valuable one that I've watched. Clear advice, clear delineation on the psychological issues involved in trading along with their potential outcomes. I think these emotional and mental pitfalls are the ones that are the hardest to deal with regarding shorter period or leveraged trading behaviors. This really is a very important video and is a good reference for ALL traders to look back on every now and again, because the fact of the matter is that when we're stuck in some of these patterns, the tendency is not to see them... and is even an outcome of those altered mental states in a lot of cases.

Thank you again. This one explores key things that are rarely addressed in the youtube, etc. independent trading media/education realm! --- So, i can't stress how much the attention you brought to these issues is important. This video, is in a sense groundbreaking, taboo-busting (by that i mean talking about things in a serious manner, which are rarely if at all discussed, and if are, are often reduced to over-simplifications, and super fast remedies). The big problem with over-simplistic approach to avoiding errors of all kinds in trading, is that it often misses the importance of being able to distinguish between matters of ignorance and matters of unconscious repetition. The former is the realm of learning (for example): how and why in certain patterns and in certain contexts price is likely to reach a crucial inflection point which very well may fail /turn around /go sideways etc. In other words, one may at first have certain kinds of naive approaches that get you into hot water, and THEN you start to learn things like the signficance of key R/S zones, the value of analyzing initially on diff time frames, etc. and how price has tendency to react, pause, etc. at certain points. That THEN puts you on the road of the need to "plan the trade" and in effect account for diff possible outcomes and prepare the trade accordingly. When one is first trading one might think all kinds of enthusiastic excited types of ideas like more or less price will just rise and rise and rise (as in things should just "go to the moon" boom 123) or the opposite, or one has no real idea of where levels etc. may be. But one starts to see that its a bit more complex then such general, wild-bull naive sense. This is what i mean by ignorance at play. This can be remedied by simply studying, and really seeking to grasp key concepts, real time observation, some small stake experimentation and good ways to reflect and learn. On the other hand, mistakes made out of unconscious repitition, is more the realm of things like: asking why does one violate one's trading & risk mgmt strategy? Or why does one take a not-very-good trade (according to one's own's Strategy criteria) and then become upset that it does not go well. Due to rushing? due to ... what? how can one examine one's own role in making mistakes in a rational way, that *includes* the power of the unconscious? For example one very succesful trader writes of how he came to realize that at a certain level -- growing up as a boy strapped and in near-poverty in his family -- he had complex unconscious emotional etc. relations to making very good money ---including insecurity as to if he deserved it, or if it was 'right', etc.. He had to take a lot of time to 'work thru' this and all the reflex's it brought at certain turn points. It played out in a tendency to self sabotage and freeze up, if and when his equity curve was doing well. I know this is long post here. i will just mention one last thing. I think there that one of the areas that is often talked about in an over-simplistic manner is the danger of FOMO. we all say things like 'don't get into FOMO!' but actually there are really more aspects then simply what it sounds like. For example some people have an issue of skipping trades that are setting up well -- precisely hitting all the checkpoints one looks for in a strategy. Why does that arise? How can that best be addressed? Lost Opportunity is itself a significant thing that can effect many traders, psychologically. I encourage that you make more videos in this realm and open up the question of what causes the tendency of skipping trades (that fit very well your strategy criteria), and how that can best be technically remedied (such as with taking small size, recognizing a certain anxiety when all the green lights are there to engage long or short as is called for, etc.) Thanks again!

The focusing on skill factor and desire to improve mitigates a lot of the burnout and grief of loss for me. I just made a bad decision today and got shaken out of a position, but then I rationally re-entered, albeit at a much less riskier (and now less profitable) position, and then the price action did go back to the original direction. I would've been much better off if I didn't do anything, because I got shaken out by emotions. However right after, I tried to look at the thing that made me change my mind, and I found it was focusing on a small time frame of movement, instead of focusing on the more macro movements. Good lesson for me, I'm ok with taking that loss in profits as tuition for this lesson.

Adding to the recommendation about avoiding isolation by staying connected to other human beings, I'd also suggest trading outside of your house or place of residence, which, after a while, can feel like a lite version of solitary confinement. To stay connected, I now do a lot of my trading out in town, in spaces where other people visit to work remotely and have conversation with others. This has helped me tremendously.

Here's what I've learned: Momentum trading didn't work. Charts establish context and summarize the situation up until now. They have no reliable predictive value for the future, even a few seconds in the future, because it is impossible to know all the events influencing the large traders that are moving the stocks. They know more than I do. Event driven trading can be done. With education and experience, one gains understanding of the events that move the market, like the FOMC meeting next week. I can set up a trade based on a 50/50 event going a certain way. If it goes the way I predict, I make money, but if it doesn't, I lose a little or break even. Bonus: while I'm waiting out the event, I can do other, mentally healthy things.

Yeah but they might open with a massive liquidity clear out, to trigger all stop losses. Better to wait at least 15 min after a news, to see if some structures are forming, and pick a good entry. I only trade in the present, and agree with your statement about predictions. But smart money is somewhat predictable, and you can climb on their backs.

Another great video as always! thanks so much my friend, you really always seem to hit on the absolute most important aspects of this game! For me, I've really become aware of my destructive habits this past year. Biggest bad habit is averaging into a trade I clearly got wrong and turning what should have been a small stop loss into a huge, year ruining disaster. Hard to master this one, because you become paralyzed when it starts getting away from you, and you convince yourself to hold and keep adding. I've taken too many of these over the years and just one or 2 of them can wipe out a previously good year of consistently small to medium sequence of gains you may have accumulated with good discipline. Best to get right out and admit defeat than let your ego blow up your account in one session.
