Andrew, I have been shooting photography for 10 years. I have always shot in auto. I have tried to learn how to shoot manually and only became frustrated in the middle of a shoot. I recently watched your aperture hack video before a senior shoot. OH my goodness, I set my camera up the way you said and shot the entire shoot in aperture. You forget “Action”. In ny world there is portrait, landscape and action. These three need totally different settings. Macro is something special. ApertureWise it’s like landscape.

Finally, someone who knows what they are talking about. Let's not forget practicality. Also, older viewfinders (like my Nikon F and F3) had darker viewfinders so high aperture lenses might have bee a plus.

@@rinothmani6064 I suppose the only thing that might help with the 'IQ' analogy is to mention to students that the f-number is actually a fraction. f/2 for example is ½. I find telling students to think this way will make them realise that 1/22 is a much smaller 'number' than 1/2 so f/22 is therefore a smaller hole than f/2 etc. etc. I sometimes find students who don't understand fractions! But usually they get it immediately. Anyway, great video indeed.
