Excellent tutorial as always, Dom! 🍀 To all those who still think that Cubase plugins still can't keep up with dedicated third-party plugins: Think carefully about who and why you are making your music. For people in your/"our" circles and/or like-minded people "I listen to everything, even whether it's a dynamic EQ from provider X or a compressor from provider Y..." or you make music for the "normal" music consumer out there ". It is undisputed and self-evident that one strives for the best possible quality, also in order to be personally satisfied with one's work. But that the music consumer "out there" can distinguish from his MP-3 file (which he listens to somewhere on his earbuds in most everyday situations) whether a dynamic filter from provider X or a saturator from provider Y is used when mixing and/or mastering or alternatively a current Cubase plugin was used, I would really like to leave that open...

Hey Dom! Thanks! I did try it yesterday on a mix and I got stuck at the DYN filters. I think that there should be an option to solo the frequencies so you can follow your ear when choosing the frequency that you want to control. Also the first EQ: the best thing is to basically have the "Frequency" plugin instead of the "studio" one. If you went this far, no reason why not to include it, If you want to control the curves of the eq you cant, if you want additional dynamic control for example. Its a great idea that I would like to revisit in the future.

Amazing as usual Dom. When you demo vocal chains you always use female pop vocals. I would dearly love you to do a session where you compared your approach to those with something like a male rock/distortion voice. What choices you might make differently? I definitely think I'm going to move to this single tool as my vocal chain.

If users really compared their third-party effects with the Cubase onstock ones, they would find out that they hardly need third-party effects hardly or not at all. Nobody will hear the minimal differences in a final song production.... Cubase offers very high quality professional effects, higly recommend.

Thanks Dom, you are a legend. I think this plugin is awesome. I love the black valve compressor, a shame there isn't an attack and release knob. And yes, I remember your video on manually reducing sibilance in the audio track. It's a pain but makes life so much easier down the track (apologise about the pun). You're knowledge on the little things that make a big difference is inspiring. Thanks again.

It sounds pretty good, and could be useful for people that spend all their creativity on producing the instruments and then want a quick solution to sort out the vocals. Kiiiinda not worth the upgrade to me though as I have got every bit of it in my DAW already, and don't reaaaally struggle that much with CPU usage. I think I might actually skip this upgrade. C12 was just pretty much all I ever needed at the time, and still is. But, for the sake of Steinberg staying competitive they nailed it

Great video, very helpful, many thanks! Two questions: 1. Where in the chain would you add a doubler such as Reel ADT (you do this in another video through a send channel)? 2. If you use the dynamic EQ to take care of boxiness and harshness, would you still need something like Soothe, and if yes would you put it in the end of a chain or also in parallel through send?

Hello Dom, Thank you very much for the excellent video. The VocalChain VST alone is worth switching to Cubase 13. I also used the VocalChain on solo instruments (e.g. trumpet flute) and used it to improve the timbres and create more brilliant sounds. Unfortunately, after installing it twice, I still don't have any presets in the vocal chain. I have now reported this to support and asked for support. Thank you very much and please keep it up. Many greetings, Herbert 🙂👍

Super great demonstration! Love the sounds and the design of this plug-in. Really user friendly, and so many options! I would ask: Can you not turn off the LP filter on the first section? Are you able to solo the frequency bands in the dynamic frequency section to hone in better on problem areas? That, and I’ll always want a 18dB/oct filter, but that’s probably just me 😂
This tool is great. But it would be a game change if we could insert our hardware units into the chain. Don't you think so? Thank you for this very clear demo. Bravo

A chain like this in a plugin makes it for hobbyists, amateurs, or less professionals easier to understand what is happening and why it is happening. You do not have to choose the tools, they are already there at hand and of excellent qualtity....Maybe a mastering chain by Steinberg with the help from Dom?

But at the same time - it's way more cpu friendly this way and for larger projects I truly welcome these kind of plugins and it makes me work more efficient. Don't dismiss before you have even thought about the upsides. This plugin actually sounded really good. Mostly it is all about how you use it so one plugin instead of ten...why not?
@compingharry Жыл бұрын
I agree, it gives more insight, is CPU friendly (although my new i9-13900K computer can handle my "household" recordings for the first time without freezing/rendering) and it's a fine learning tool for many less advanced users@@magnuslervikmusic

Hi Dom :) great Video as always! Would you say that this Vocal Chain Plugin could replace or would be worth it to replace the classic Vocal Send Fx Channels inc Reverb & Delay Sidechain Compression on the classic Vocal Reverb & Delay Send Fx Channels by the Vocals itself ?
@orrinbynum5978 Жыл бұрын
Hi Dom. As usual your video on this VocalChain is very informative and interesting. However; I hope I didn’t miss anything but, where can I find the preset that you mentioned in this video? My next question is this : After using the VocalChain for your main track, can you use these original settings to harmonize your back ground vocals, like when using VariAudio scale assistance? Or is there an entirely new and different technique, that needs to be implemented when using back ground vocals? I got a little confused as to when you would use this VocalChain in the context of your tracks? Please give me a little more clarification as to when to use this vocal chain? Should it be the first thing I should use for my first vocal track? And can I use this VocalChain also to add my duplicated tracks for my harmony voices. I am wondering if I use this original VocalChain, would my background voices clash if I were to use this with the VariAudio Scale Assistance? I am not trying to become an engineer in the music industry. It is my desire to create songs using my own voice and make quality lead vocal lines and make beautiful quality background vocals to accompany my main solo voice. Please help me with this? I do hope that I have explained myself well enough for you to understand what I am trying to accomplish with my understanding of how to use this VocalChain plug-in to make my solo tracks sound great and how to make my background vocals sound equally great also. As usual I wish you continued success with all of your music videos and I also wish you success financially as well. Thank you again for sharing your continued knowledge with us music lovers and future music makers. Have a wonderful day and week.

Such a plug will never replace experience and a trained air + a well recorded signal. Fun fact: you don't use Pitch correct but keep it turned on, not so funny fact: this plugin adds a lot of latency!

I just downloaded Cubase 13 and tried the vocal chain on a track and replaced the multiple inserts that I was using. My computer is old (i7, 5820)and the CPU meter went from about 30% to spiking when I used the new vocal chain. So, I don't think I will get much out of the new vocal chain until I get my new computer with a faster processor. But, even then, other effects seem to achieve a similar effect without tying up so much CPU.
@stegerguitars Жыл бұрын
is it possible to record while using the plugin....or is there too much latency while monitoring?
@tortieville1984 Жыл бұрын
I don't know. All I did was take compressors eq's and a saturation plug off my inserts on an existing vocal track and then just put the vocal chain on the insert. I was running about 20 tracks with effects total. The CPU was dramatically effected. It probably depends on how fast your processor is and how many plugins you are using on your project.@@stegerguitars
