bro ff6 is a classic of course, but why the ps1 version? the load times make it unbearable to play

Personally I prefer the PS1 version for some fairly minor reasons. I like the sound better, it's not censored, it comes with the added FMVs, the unlockable gallery and bestiary, and you can also sprint to make the game play a little bit faster especially when back tracking around towns. The loading times aren't really a big deal for this one. It is worse on Chrono Trigger. But I am also playing this one on an emulator so the loading times are slightly faster. I was torn between the PS1 version as it is the one I played the most of growing up or the GBA version which I think is the best. But they are minor gripes. If I had a SNES and an old CRT then I would probably play it like that.

@retrogaminglibrary im old so i think the SNES version is the definitive version, but ive never played the GBA version the steam pixel remaster is pretty good, is also the most convenient way to play it

@@Gravitatis The GBA version is great, it has the best translation, so if you are a fan of the story its worth playing. I think the steam pixel remaster looks terrible. It's far too clean taking away the original grit from the older games. GBA is a nice mix, they enhanced the sprites, increased brightness, handled scaling, and it still looks authentic. Whilst the steam version I think looks like a mobile game and loses the tone. There is no perfect iteration of FF6 unfortunately and I doubt we will ever get one.

@retrogaminglibrary are we thinking of the same re-release? they made a bad remaster a couple of years ago but they recently made an actual pixel remaster that looks pretty good i played a patched version of the SNES version with an reworked fan translation, the only thing i really never got to see was the extra bosses or w/e in the GBA version

@@Gravitatis Both of the remasters I think look really bad, especially the UI, it was like it was made for mobile first then ported to the other systems after. The best thing about them is that they have a built in music player so you can play the songs individually but apart from that I don't like them. The GBA translation is really good and yeah there are some extras, as well as in the PS1 version, plus a lot of bugs and glitches removed whilst the Pixel Remaster has new bugs of its own. I don't really feel like I'm playing FF6 on the remaster as they changed too much. But PS1 and GBA version stick very close to the SNES version in terms of gameplay and how the game is coded. The music isn't as good on the GBA though. Either way you've got to compromise between versions.
