Once upon a time I came across an Islamic scholar and intellectual who did something really strange to me.
I was quite intrigued finding out that Shaykh Abdullah al-Ujayri actually translated John Hersey’s book on Hiroshima into Arabic.
Why would an Islamic scholar and thinker who specialises in Da’wah, theology and philosophy, translate a book written in 1946 about an attack between two non-Muslim nations?
He was very convincing about why Muslims need to know about this.
Watch this video to find out what it says about the human condition and the state of civilisation.

Islamic scholars were the ones that saved Greek texts, which would have otherwise been lost to time had they not recorded them. I also had a Muslim professor that said Allah hid clues in nature and encouraged people to learn about the world around them. So I don't think it's surprising someone, even a religious figure, decided to translate this text. There's a quote that I don't remember how it goes exactly, but it says an individual's character is tested when you give them power. I think anyone can get corrupted to do something terrible, as seen throughout history from different countries and even religions.

@@takiyaazrin7562 Ah yes the dishonesty of the Non Muslim *KAFRS* Kid this is after battle and those people had been captured and executions were taking place as those evil people came to attack the Muslims and were at War. The *KAFRS* like yourself were sending children into battle alongside the men and teens, essentially *child soldiers* The Muslims made sure to differentiate the children and let them go free as non-combtants, women, children(Not hit puberty), animals and nature are to be protected. So this doesn't prove your point but disproves it. *Pathetic*

I don't think there can be a Muslim Oppenheimer. There was a lecture ling time ago by Hamza Yusuf where he talked about I think a 7th Centruy Muslim Scholar and physicst that did research into atoms as one if the smallest matters in the universe and as he did his investigations came to the realisation and probabilities of where his research could lead in terms of splitting the atom, destruction on a mass scale, and by fires etc. He left this research out of his moral, ethical conviction. If this is true, it would be good to uncover this study and scholars name. Also due to this and what is explained in this video there cannot be a Muslim Oppenheimer.

the scientist name is Jabir ibn Hayyan he stated that the smallest component of the matter can decompose to a smaller components, and in oppose to what Greeks presume , Jabir get to the conclusion that the what we know today as the atom actually contains a a condense amount of energy where the energy resulted from decomposing the atom would led to flip the city of Baghdad Up side down.

Also, if you study the Quran, The Prophets life and teachings you will see that ending a life is only allowed in strict conditions and when allowed it is only the ones who are warring with you that you can erase no one else, nothing else. Ask the Pakistani 'Islamic Bomb' how are they going to explain their atomic bomb when they had clearly conditions expressed in the Quran available to them without any dispute.

"He left this research out of his moral, ethical conviction." Wow, this is exactly what i've been thinking to myself and talked with this guy on ' Oppenheimer "Destroyer of Worlds" soundtrack video ' a week ago. I thought to myself the exact same thing that if i finds out this horrifying discovery of my knowledge why should i share to anyone? You can find my replies in one those commenter's reply. That's one of the amazing thing about Islam and being a Muslim : Prevention is better than a cure.

After watching this video I still think in this day and age especially after the US used atomic weapons on Japan, it's fine to develop atomic or nuclear weapons for self defence. I'm not going to get into the debate of whether it's halal or haraam as I'm not anp Islamic scholar but to say Christian, Atheist, Hindu nations have nuclear weapons but Muslim countries like Pakistan shouldn't follow suit is basic thinking. As an Ummah we need to defend ourselves rather be blackmailed, tricked or attacked. When India tested nuclear weapoin the 1960s then Pakistan had no choice but to defend itself and develop nuclear weapons.

MashaAllah Tabarak Allah....Exactly! We must rise above the muck and show the better way and speak the truth even if it is against our own selves or our fathers and brothers. We must come to the realization that the ONLY way is Al-Islam. The way of our Prophet (saw) and ALL of the Prophets (as) before him (saw). InshaAllah ALL of mankind is yearning for this, it is in our fitra. Alhamdullilah

1:35 "this was the moment that revealed western civilisations character." That is an ignorat statement. The fire bombings of tokyo that happened before that were way more destructive and took more lifes. The real reason why Japan gave up after the dropping of atomic bombs is tactical, not emotional. It was because Americans could now destroy a city using just one plane and the Japanese didn't have enough fuel to intercept every single plane.

Apparently, when the west invented electricity or vaccines or transport vehicles and modern agriculture, because of which billions of lives were saved and continue to be saved, they didn't show their truest colors. Only when they unjustly killed some 200000 people, they showed their true colors. I mean this is such an ignorant statement truly. No ones defending the west for its crimes, but such statements are so wrong on so many levels.

I think that we should also look at how the Japanese conducted themselves during that war. Especially in terms of that region. It's not like Japan was innocent or fair, by any means. That's not to justify the use of those bombs, or to diminish their suffering because of those attacks, but the Japanese were arguably worse than the Germans. There's a reason why the region resented Japan for so long after the war. Look into "the Nanjing Massacre", for instance (if you're sensitive, then do not look that up). Both sides were immoral to the extreme. So it's not like we should be condemning the Americans as the sole tyrant here. The Japanese conducted themselves in an absolutely horrific manner during that war. They paid the price for that, and of course the usage of atomic weapons is to be condemned, as well as the firebombing of other cities, but just research how the Japanese were terrorizing the area and you'll see that both sides were way out of line. Also, why would it be strange for a Muslim scholar to translate a book that, on a surface level, has nothing to do with Islam? Do we live in an Islamic bubble? I find it odd that you find that strange, to be honest. You'd actually want scholars to have a good grasp of a wide range of topics, including topics that are important in their own right, and not just to Muslims.

I think the difference is the Japanese don’t go blabbering about being a “benevolent empire that stands for human rights”. Also the whole WW2 narrative is built upon a good vs evil paradigm. It’s the war that guides every war the West embarks on. It’s almost holy in the western tradition at this point.

On your first point, I don't think the brother is saying that the Japanese were not just as ruthless or he was protecting them. He's just saying such a destructive weapon shouldn't have been used, at all. So your missing the point. But i do agree with your second point.

The video leaves me with uneasy feelings, looks like u didn’t get the point of the movie: we are all human beings with weaknesses +toys that can destroy us all. Saying that practicing islam will make us not weak or will make us not make toys, is just wishful thinking and clouded idealism.. We didn’t do atomic B coz we are poor not because we are muslims.

Your assessment of his assessment seems to have missed his point. He was saying that the West has a long recorded history of implementing human suffering when there is no need, when they are in a position of power. Muslims history has no such long standing history. Muslims are not poor. The combined wealth of Muslim nation is 22 Trillion dollars, we are just unuited.

A lot of prophets, 1 God who manifested in the flesh.... The AMAZING blindspot in Islam... denying Jesus's deity... God the Father is Spirit and manifested fully in Christ "the Son". EPIC!! Jesus healed all, raised the dead casted out demons, controlled nature and said: "If you see Me, you see the Father. The Father and I are one. You will understand that the Father is IN Me and I am in you". I understand. Hence the divine healing miracles and casting out of demons i experience. Just as His first disciples experienced. The Gospel: The restoration of you too to original created value: Christlikeness, walking in unselfish love and divine power, by His Spirit, because of Gods love. For all to understand.
