They pulled a fast one on the viewers in this segment. That was NOT a "live" view of the eye. The way Optomap works is that you place the patient at the machine as you see on this video, then you press a button which snaps a VERY bright light and it's at this moment when Optomap takes a still photo of your eye. They were looking at a still photo, not a live picture. I don't know why they misled us like that---it doesn't make sense.

smitty195 Because it’s television and they mislead everything just like the ‘news’ ... just sensationalism and entertainment

Very cool. I had my eye exam recently and they offered instead of dilation, they now have a way to take a picture of the eye, similar to this. What's nice is it stays in your file and can be compared to next year's image to track changes. Since eye problems run in the family, now I can feel more reassured knowing we can track smaller changes and be proactive instead of reactive. I'm an exception, because I have red hair and pale skin, but i have the darkest brown eyes. The doctors remark on just how much pigment I have and that it's unusual.

Had mines done today! LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. Ask the doc to email you the photo!!! Although, like someone else said, why did they mislead you to think that this is a live picture, how is that possible, because it can't work if you're moving or blinking, you gotta take the photo first. STRANGE they did it like this.

I had this done last week - absolutely amazing, I got to see the back of my eye for the first time! My doctor didn't find anything wrong with me, but it gave me piece of mind. Extra cool, because this replaced the need for me to be dilated! Awesome!

Never let your eye doctor use Optos as a substitute for a Dilated eye exam. Disclaimer, I am an eye doctor. 1) Optos will at the most, capture 80% of the retina. The far peripheral will never be captured. This is where risk factors of retinal detachments (retinal holes/tears/lattice degeneration) lurk. Also, many patients with high risk of retinal detachments never complain of symptoms of flashes of light. Many patients with early diabetic retinal complications will show retinal bleeding in the far periphery. Optos image will not capture the far edge. 2) Glaucoma is detected by a 3 D imaging of the optic nerve head. Glaucoma is damage of the tissue, many early glaucoma have subtle signs only a dilation 3D live view by the eye doctor can see. Never let a retinal imaging alone detect diabetes. Not all patients with Diabetes will show retinopathy (retinal bleeding). Only a A1C blood test will detect diabetes.

Just watched this , when he said a live view of the girls eye. I noticed she never did blink and the Dr was looking at the right eye. But the technical was scanning the left eye. Just saying.

Some people are born with optic nerves that are different sizes compared to one another, however it is unusual enough to be evaluated by an ophthalmologist to be sure that pathology isn't the cause. It is possible that you are perfectly healthy, however asymmetric "cupping" of the optic nerve is a classic sign of a glaucoma suspect. Before you ask, I am not a doctor. However, the doctor I work for is extremely knowledgeable about situations such as yours.

It showed normal stuff. The OptoMap showed that my optic nerves were different sizes. The Dr. said that's normal. Were your optic nerves the same size or different??

Nope, I didn't hear anything. It was just a quick flash - blinding kinda. LOL. I'm nearsighted though. Are you?

God, our Creator, is amazing, while the intellectual fools debate how a gain of information through some evolutionary process is how we got our vision.
