Deliveroo updates the customer before we buy to tell us that it would take 1hr wait etc. if the Restaurent has a lot of orders or is slow. So if they still get an order, its because a the customer has made an informed decision.

Good one. Such an unpredictable way to make a living. Don't know how some totally rely on it as an income. But there aren't many jobs these days you can get without qualifications. Hence a lot of foreign riders. And part time earning students. As a country boy I went fruit picking. Hop picking. Spud picking. Grass cutting. Tractor work. Different way of life. But then back then there wasn't much in the way of food deliveries anywhere.

when i was delivering takeaway food from 1990 to about 2005 it was not uncommon to make around £10 in tips on friday and saturday nights,but there were no apps back then and all customers placed their orders by phone and paid the driver in cash and many would let you keep some or all of the change

As above, motorcycles aren't strictly allowed in them (they were a very long time ago apparently, but there were quite a few rider fatalities that lead to them not allowing it). Were it down to me though, I'd give those boxes back to motorcycles, and make it legal for cyclists to skip red lights if they give way and don't affect traffic that has a green light (considering both get broken, and in reality they're minimal impact to anyone unless done really inconsiderately)
