Thank you for doing this segment. As a southern girl living in California, I appreciate being able to show my children that my stories are rooted in tradition. In other words, “I’m not making this up. Folks all around the south do this too!”

Once, while working for a Las Vegas catering service, we catered Mike Tyson's New Years Eve Party, at his mansion. The menue was vegitarian. And included Black Eyed Peas, Greens, and Corn Bread. Along with Dirty Rice. And several other goodies. All low sugar. No alcohol. Different family members came into the kitchen to make sure things pleasing to their taste . The entire family was so very polite, and gracious. It was amazing.

As a Pennsylvanian who was raised by family with southern roots, this is a tradition we have kept. I was surprised to find out that it's not more common up north.
