My mom was a Lt JG in the Navy in WWII Dad was a marine. Mom was the highest rank a female could obtain. Dad had to salute her before they got married. Mom gave my husband and I a ride on a B-17 a few years back. It was amazing. Mom sat on the tarmac as the engine started up and had tears running down her face. It was a sound she hadn't heard in decades.

This is like the airport in Mafia 1 which takes place in the 1930's. Art deco is fun, but I wanted to see a neoclassical airport, back when people had actual architectural skills directly inherited from the ancient greeks and shiet.

The place looks a bit far from being cared for compared to most museums , the concrete is damaged with plants growing up through the concrete , the planes are not cared for properly either they are basically rusting away exposed to the different weather sitting out there on the tarmac. I have serious doubts that the place is a serious museum cause the aviation people would never let aircraft sit outdoors exposed to all kinds of weather conditions , museum pieces are inside specially designed aircraft hangers.

Welcome to Wichita, Chris! Would have been awesome to meet ya, but I'm sure you gotta keep on keeping on LOL! There's little things all around Wichita, one of my favorites is at Pawnee and Broadway on the southwest corner, there is a neat outdoor aquarium, water display, trail, park....just neat little area if you get bored!! Travel safe buddy!

Thank you for the informative video. I grew up in Wichita, KS. It may interest your followers that the T-37 jet trainer. As well as the B-47 and B-52 bombers were all built in Wichita, KS. Learjet, Cessna and Beechcraft are all part of other corporations now. But they are all still in operation in Wichita, KS. Spirit Aerospace makes every single 737 fuselage in Wichita as well.

Don't downplay your videos. I thought it was interesting. I'm not into planes but I could see how passengers got on the planes, walking across the ground to their airplane. I can picture the people in their 30's and 40's clothes. Some movie stars or famous singers of the time. Those pilot seats didn't look very comfortable. I'm glad the building is still intact without broken windows and graffiti. Short and sweet.

Hi, Chris, I wasn't aware you were putting so much info out on this second channel, so I've just subscribed to it. For a long time, the Witchita Airport was considered the Detroit of the Aviation World, as Witchita was/ is the headquarters of most of the major American aircraft manufacturers, just as Detroit was the capital of American Automobile manufacturing before our politicians open the floodgate to send every thing overseas. The KC-135 Tanker was developed from the venerable Boeing 707air liner which started the official age of jet travel. Thanks for sharing, God Bless and stay safe.

The airplane sculpture adorning the building would be The Spirit of St. Louis , from 1927 . Charles Lindberg became the first person to fly solo across the Atlantic , landing in France . He was the most famous person in the world at the time this building was erected . The scale of his tickertape parade was exceeded only by our moon landing astronauts . Earlier in Lindberg's career he flew airmail throughout the Midwest and likely at some point serviced this city , or possibly location . Biplanes required no improved runway . USAF vet

That place is awesome and should be a main attraction for Wichita. The building itself has example of Art Deco and the “Relief” of the plane on the facade is probably the only one of its kind anywhere in the world. An interview with someone who worked there in its heyday would be gold. Any chance of doing Cowtown next? The church there has an interesting story. The oldest structure or church In Kansas supposedly. The Southern Hotel etc.
