I appreciated the mention of how Jacobson set the precedent for the appalling decision to allow forced sterilization as well as the question of who gets to decide what public safety is. However, this episode operates on a number of false premises: 1. the propaganda that vaccine mandates further public health, 2. the idea that those who oppose mandates are "anti-vaxxers", 3. the assumption that getting vaccinated prevents us from infecting others, and 4. the belief that the smallpox vaccine was what ended smallpox (Find the date that the smallpox vaccine became mandated then look at the smallpox death rates for the years before and after this date). Julia Longoria, consider delving deeper into this issue and covering it from a fairer angle.

Vaccine mandates are effective at reducine vaccine-preventable outbreaks, especially when the mandates were actually enforced and exemptions weren't allowed. Here's a review with several cited sources if anyone wants to get into specifics: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9270060/ Of course, unless you're a conspiratorial hack. Then actual scientific evidence won't sway you and you'll go back to finding some obscure blog or koch-funded idiocy using long-debunked talking points to confirm your own worldview.
