the whole Herc merry-go-round and looping story is actually pretty fuzzy. I've read numerous interviews from people that attended Herc parties and they said he was playing the whole records...not specifically going to the break parts like many historians have claimed. Herc himself said he started it when he got to the Hevelo but when you find out he didn't get there until 1975, the claims of 1973 become fishy lol
