What a shame of a video from THE NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM OF LOS ANGELES. The spanish people did not change the name of the places to replace the native name. Replacing names happens for many reason including the newcomers can not pronouse the name exactly the same, the old name sounds like something bad in the new language or people start calling places by the features of the land in they native language versus trying to remember how the natives of the land call it. So how come the united states didnt keep all spanish names? Where them trying to replace the spanish names? The natives in Missions where not forced to live inside. The Missinons where created to attract the natives not to enslave them. Many natives lived in the missions because there they where protected from other natives trives that ofted made war to each other, they learn valuable life skills like agriculture, farm animal care, house building, write, read and music. From the spanish point of view missinons provided a way the earn native trust, make them sedentary, stop waring against them and make them Spanish, specifically speek spanish and joint the Catholic religion. If they were going to live in the mission they had to obey the mission rules like noone coming in at out after sertain hours, hence the lock, girls, boys and family in different rooms, wakeing up at certain times and doing their shores. The missions did not take their lands, they were not forced to work, they were not prohibited to speak their languages. Where did you get that information. So, the natives living in California for thousands of years needed the Spanish to teach them how to build houses and how to grow food? What, were they living in vans by the river and smoking meth and starving? 😂😂😂 get your facts straight. The Spanish literally killed their languages and enslaved them and forced Christianity on them. Are you from the past? They came here knowing there was gold here from the tales in Southern America of "el Dorado ". You have no idea what you're talking about.
