Sara Maclean The writers state that they are putting a end to Hayley and Elijah's relationship because Elijah was abusive towards Hayley in episode 4X10 and they don't want to send a message that that's ok. However in my opinion I like what they are trying to do, but at the same time I question why they are doing this now, and why Hayley and Elijah? Up until 4X11 Elijah have never harmed Hayley, and the incident in 4X10 took place only in his subciouse mind behind the red door while he was lock away in a pendent. He didn't know Hayley back then. They are breaking them up over that, meanwhile promoting Kol and Davina . Kol actually killed Davina.

I'm annoyed by the destruction of Hayley and Elijah. Elijah was out of his mind when Hayley entered the pendant - he didn't know what he was doing when he attacked her - and Freya had warned Hayley of that before. I don't really buy her revulsion at where he was in his subconscious as a reasonable motive for dumping him. As she said, to Jack, she is also a monster -- so I don't really know who would be good enough as a person for her. The reality is that Elijah treasures her and treats her well. True he doesn't treat others outside their family well and that's been the sticking point this season but she also has a trail of bodies dragging behind her. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with their actual relationship. In this case, I feel like she should take the love extended to her and not get up on some crazy high horse about it.

That's a tautology -- since these aren't real characters we are watching live out their lives. It is the writers who wrote Elijah "abusing" Hayley (note that this really only consists in his biting her when he is totally off his head and in another reality). They could have written something different and spared us this.

I know they’ve said the series would include Elijah unraveling but come on. It truly BREAKS MY HEART the way Hayley treats him the last few episodes of this season. He never pretended to be perfect or without blame. Yes in the shattered fragments of his mind he did what he did. As soon as Hope brought him back from the edges of his sanity he was repentant and asked for her forgiveness. He didn’t try to force himself on her and she repeatedly breaks his heart. And after all that all he thinks of is what could be best for she and Hope and Klaus. Come on people! He’s loved this woman for 8 years, been there for her, sacrificed his wants and hopes for her, waited for her and all the while protected her from the first day he met her! He deserves better!

TO Season 1 - Hayley admonishes Elijah for choosing the dead over the living. TO Season 3 - Hayley chooses her dead husband over Elijah. TO Season 4, Episode 2 - Hayley openly tells Elijah that she's done terrible things to wake the family, that she was ruthless, and that she'd do it again. TO Season 4, also Episode 2 - Hayley tells Elijah not to define himself by things he's done in the past. She assures him he is good. TO Season 4, Episode 9 - suddenly, Elijah's bad... apparently forgetting what a monster she has also been. His heart breaks because he has so much guilt within, which she knew all too well, leading him to have his memory erased, leading to him allowing her to die because he didn't remember their relationship. Conclusion: Hayley was responsible for her own death.

I disagree on that last point. Hayley wasn't the reason he lost his memories but due to the immense love for his brother (Klaus),he asked Marcel to compel him to forget everything. In short, Elijah caused Hayley's death for having his memories wiped out.

Honestly if you look at things Hayley still keeps focusing on what other people think about her. She knew Elijah was a monster behind his red door he never hid what he thought of himself to her. Can I understand her being a little rattled?? Yeah, it's one thing to know it as an abstract thought but to see it and experience it is something else altogether. However, she keeps thinking about what JACKSON would think. Jackson was an arranged marriage and he wouldn't have waited for Hayley his entire life if it wasn't drilled into his head. I hate this scene. For starters, someone being a good person alone doesn't mean you should love them or that they're the right person for you. Second, I think Hayley put too much pressure on Hope to remain "innocent". We have never seen someone who was supernatural in this franchise who was not put in a situation where they had to get their hands dirty to save their life or the life of someone they love. We have also seen most supernatural people, including Hayley, just be pushed to the point where they snap. This does not make them monsters. It was unrealistic of Hayley to think that Hope could remain "innocent".

I’m sorry but no one should be siding with Hayley in this decision first off she’s always acted like because of all the enemies the Mikaelsons have Hope will never be safe but then she went out of her way to get them all back together and in this instance this current problem isn’t even their fault but actually comes from her side of the family. I loved her character a lot but honestly she’s a hypocrite. Secondly she herself has said she’s done things just as bad as what she saw in Elijah and I get that knowing what someone has done and actually seeing it are two different things but she knows that he would never hurt her and has done everything in his power to protect all of them including Hope and will gladly die for them. How has he been acting out? He's consistently been killing people -- just as Hayley herself has but never in such a way that Hope can see it (reference earlier seasons where he would turn her stroller away as he massacred people) and to protect their family (not a new thing for him). Klaus (Hope's FATHER) is probably continuing to grab and eat people on the streets of New Orleans when he can get away from the compound and as we know from him killing for fun and sport is totally in character. No one has clean hands, including Hope's dear mother, Hayley. So, her speech makes absolutely no sense in this regard, especially as innocence is a luxury that someone who is NOT normal like Hope can ill afford. Hope will be a powerful witch and a wereworld-vampire hybrid. Where is the normal in that? People will surely come at her just because of Klaus, the rest of the Originals and Hayley. If you notice very often Freya is only able to come up with useful magic because of her memories of Dahlia doing it for some evil end. So, continued innocence for a powerful witch child like Hope may translate into not being able to truly use her powers or to defend herself in the necessary ways given the threats she will surely face. Maybe we can't expect logic from Hayley on this score because of her messed up history with murdered parents, foster care and adoptive parents who rejected her -- but will Hope be better off with people pretending that she is something she is not?

Elijah has been acting out and making rash decisions in s4, and now since hope is 7 here hayley doesn't want hope to be around that too much, all she wants is for Elijah to do better and he isn't doing it, Klaus although he is probably the scariest hybrid out there isn't being rash w his decisions bc even he knows he doesn't want hope to see him like that, all hayley wants is for Elijah to make better decisions in regards to a child being around now(he was about to murder children in the previous episodes, and hayley was not about that, I mean she even said *we need to do better*), even though we know hope will probably figure it out sooner or later, hayley is just trying to hold it off as long as possible@@haniyyahn
