People missed the point of MALIGNANT. It pays homage to comedy horrors like Basket Case. It invokes colors and vibes of A Nightmare on Elm Street. It lures you in thinking it’s a supernatural horror, before morphing into a detective thriller, THEN into a bonkers slasher. It’s multiple things and while people hated the campiness of it, it was on purpose. You were supposed to laugh and then be grossed out.

They did an awful job at marketing the movie. No one would’ve known this if they hadn’t advertised the movie as if it was another “traditional” horror movie.

@@d.6786 it was released in 2021. Theaters were struggling and a multi-layered supernatural comedy slasher wouldn’t shine so bright when everyone was frothing over Halloween Kills. Candyman 2021 also probably deflated that steam from people comparing it as well. Scream 22 really only had a chance BECAUSE we were between Kills and Ends.

@@Blast2224 What’s your point? It was distinctly marketed as James Wan’s return to horror and a new horror movie in the same vain as the Conjuring or Insidious. People were very excited to see what him and his team were up to, which understandably explains how disappointing the audience ended up being. I don’t see how Halloween Kills is relevant as it released afterward and Candyman was rated pretty high probably helped it.

Truly underrated movie. A lot of people don’t get what this movie truly is. James Wan made a film for TRUE horror fans who appreciate the vast scale horror movies can embody. So many Easter eggs to his past films in the movie as well.
