Dr Abramson, Thank you so much for a delightful three-evening lecture series covering a remarkable 3800+ years of Israeli and Jewish history. My wife and I very much enjoyed finally meeting you in person. You are as delightful in person as online. As an Anglican pastor for 43 years, and a fellow lover of history, I have learned much from your insightful, humorous teachings.

Do you do your own green-screen editing of your talks? It is interesting to see the editing of the talk at Beth Israel so that the illustrations that you used in the talk have become your backdrop. Either way, it is very effective.

@@HenryAbramsonPhDThank you professor Abramson for this imformative lecture thanks for sharing the interesting story of youre grandfather ,🇨🇦🍁🔥that fire in canada ive never heard of it was great youre grandfather was able to pull through that diasaster,thanks also for covering how that lands name was changed after 135,i often wonder if the destruction of 70 ce our ad never accourd how that region may look today ,the maccabean revolt was covered very well it seems the books of maccabees where well known in christian circles as you depicted middle ages art work 🐘of elea zers death under antiochus'war elephant💥those books seem to have been even removed from the kjv bible in the 1800s by some prodestant churches which to me i dont understand during jesus'time he would have been famaliar with the story ,as he also revered hanukkah as well ,wishing you the best as Purim comes up🎉🎉👍

Thanks Dr Abramson, your lectures always make my day. I love your "professor jokes,"and I always feel blessed because knowledge can only increase our faith in Hashem. As I have mentioned before, my mother's grandparents were Ashkenazi Jews. I was raised an American Lutheran but now am an Eastern Orthodox Christian because we embrace both books of the bible and try to live our faith daily, as I see Jews do as well.

Thanks oodles, Dr. Abramson! I've heard much of this in pieces, but it was nice to see it put all together in a single 30-minute narrative. I really appreciated your anecdote about your grandparents, and relating that to our understanding (such as it is) of history. It's a good reminder that these were all real people with real lives, and not just extras on some grander historical drama, which is about all we get from the past. Also, I loved the Chinese take-out box "artifact." What a hoot!

Shabbat Shalom from a dying Assyrian who once long before the Israelites were Jews and believed in Hashem/Yahweh and were therefore as numerous as the stars of the sky and the grains of sand on the shores and had the greatest empire and foremost culture on earth; But who unfortunately later turned their backs on Hashem (followed Babylonian idolatry and later the Christian heresy) and therefore were lost in according to the covenant and promises: "If you remain faithful to me, I will make you the greatest, but if you forsake me, I will let you perish."

Thanks for posting, and have you watched anything by David Rohl? His description of the conditions at Avaris (slavery in Mitzraim) is chilling and telling. If Jewish Palestinian Aramaic was In use from 200 bce to 200 ce, and likely Judea’s primary language at the time of Jesus and the early Christians, then when And how Hebrew was used?
@freeto9139
@freeto9139 10 ай бұрын
@@yasim9435I was taught that Hebrew was the lingua franca in Israel; and, Aramaic was spoken mainly in the Decapolis region. A kind of course merchandising language used particularly by fisherman. It was a semitic dialect; so not difficult to pick up if one applies oneself. Also, necessary (!) in order to insure one was dealt with equitably in business. Hebrew, being the language of the Bible; and therefore, the language of education (Hebrew children were educated, boys longer, but girls as well, till the age of marriage). It was also, illegal to teach a Hebrew child any language, except "Hebrew". So, it seems they were endeavoring to protect the culture. After adulthood, or if born outside the land, would have been different. Especially interesting: daughters of Rabbis were considered desirable wives for the insights they would have gleaned from their fathers!

Thank You Dr.Abramson for your illustrative video from Tanzania. I am scientist and I love history and theology, I am curious about the historical Abraham and moses, in theological narration they have done significant things worth notable in history of their respectful regions and still we dont have any archelogical evidence for their existance, Many of my science buddies who are not following any of religion regard all the theological figures from Abraham to Moses as myth produced to by Isrealiets to unjustly comit genocide to the existing civilization already prevailing in palestine. Plz Recommend video to share so as to gate a base for discussion.

With all due respect Dr. I would disagree with you Abraham would have been about 3100 BC. 5784 Jewish year - 2024= 3760 BC. They were called Chaldeans weren't They. Abraham of Ur of Chaldea? Herodotus wrote about the Chaldeans priests in Babylon. Then they were called Ioudai (ee-ouh-they/ee-ou = Jew)

Abraham was an immigrant from Ur who settled in Hebron. He was blessed by a local king for his service in war. Irish annals identify the king of Golgotha in the time of Amenemhat III as Ogamhan. Ogamhan fought a civil war among the Phoenicians between the sons of Nenual and the sons of Niul.

Shalom wtodah! There are 2 points I would like you to comment (sorry for poor English). -I am somehow confused about calling "Jewish" the people of the kingdom of Samaria between king Shlomo and the destruction by the Assyrians. In the sources I read, they are mostly called "Samaritans". -You mentionned Phoenicians as "sea people" but I remember that they called themselves Canaanites and spoke a semitic language very close to Hebrew.

I listened once to a Yale course and it was argued that the group who separated from the rest of Caanan tribes and became Jewish was, at least for a while, not very different from them, it was a gradual process of cultural and social differentiation. This makes the story of exodus and conflict after leaving Egypt quite different, if true. Thanks for your dedication and scholarship.

kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6W7k62Fad2flcU A great summary of the tribes and absolutely worth watching. Also mentioned is the Scottish declaration of independence, where they write that they are the descendants of the people of Israel. Some say the Corronation stone is the stone Jacob slept on when he had his dream.
