For mid-October to mid-November my best friend has invited me to join him on a trip to Japan. I hope to find a working FM-Towns PC - not the Marty, though. I'm not only interested in games, but the computing culture at large, and Japan had the best home computers and PCs during the 80s and 90s, imo; they could do stuff that standard PCs only learned to do years later. And I love the product design. Does anybody here know any other retro PC shops in Japan other than Beep? KZbinrs only ever make videos about console gaming. I found Beep mentioned once, and never any others.

I had no idea those cases were so big. How do they compare to the size of Neo Geo cart cases?

Similar size to slightly larger depending on the game

That port of Turbo Outrun don't look that great, it seems to be missing loads of roadside objects, like loads. Also, no parallax on Mad Stalker which means you would be better off with the PC Engine version which has a ton of extra cut scenes and super tight controls (x6800 version is the best tho).
@VideoGameEsoterica2 жыл бұрын
Oh I’d def say better than the PC Engine version

@@VideoGameEsoterica Looks pretty similar, no parallax backgrounds like the PCE version? Never played this version so i am just going on what you showed.

RAM expansion or not, I think that SSF2 needs something more than a 386SX to run smoothly: I'm afraid a 486 FM Towns is still the way to go. Said that, it's an incredible machine and I like that there are some Lucasfilm Games point and click adventures as well like Monkey Island or my favourite Loom. For the longest time the FM Towns version of Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders was the highest colours available at 256, as the Amiga/Atari ST/IBM PC versions were limited to 16 colours (and as they were based on EGA graphics assets, 16 not very good colours).

I mean the 486 is always going to be nicer for sure

Awesome video! I've always have an interest in this system, however being more of a "game player" vs a "collector" I could never justify the price, awesome games for sure and I use the UNZ emulator to be able to play this collection, but I've always had a particular interest in the "car" version of this console and it would even feel natural in my daily driver which is actually a few years older than the console, sure the navigation software would be completely useless but it look awesome none the less

I wish Sega would have released the Sega CD as a standalone next-gen console to the Genesis in late 93 based of this level of hardware with the ram expansion and also focused on mostly arcade ports. Sell it for a loss at first for 399 and it would sell like hotcakes being the only home consoles capable of arcade perfect ports. Imagine having all the Capcom/Konami/Midway games at home in 93-94 in perfect form.

great video! :-) -add my name to the list of folks who would like an emulation guide on it. bonus points if it works in retroarch... i have that handling overscan and other settings and output to a CRT TV of mine with an HDMI to s-video box, a couple of HORI mini controllers, and optical out to a soundbar and things look and sound great. i love retro games but never have nor will have the money to physically collect -for games like street fighter 2, can you use the keyboard to make up for the lack of buttons? -are there fan translations for a lot of the games? emerald dragon interests me, looks like there was a super famicom version too thank you!
