I had a really standout moment, I developed the robophobia flaw and if you talk to the robot companion it unlocks a special dialogue of you just going, "AHHHHHHHHHHHH!" and ends the conversation. 10/10

I'm replaying this game right now to try and figure out why it was so forgettable, to put my finger on what it was that led me to finish the game and not come back for another playthrough (unlike New Vegas in which I'm on my 3rd) and not even give the expansions a first glance. Diet Firefly Fallout: New Vegas trying to be Borderlands is the best description I couldn't think of.

This is the game that got me back into gaming. My life finally quieted down enough I had the ability to play and just picked OW and had such a blast. I love it and can’t wait wait for OW2 now that there is real investment behind it. This was always a smaller project from Obsidian and wasn’t meant to be a big lengthy RPG. It’s a gem and will always have a special place in my heart. I’m enjoying Starfield and definitely think there are some touches straight from OW.

I will never understand peoples obsession with lengthy games. Fun games don't have to be long. While I agree with most of your thoughts on the game, I sick of modern gamers insisting that games be 100 + hrs to make it worth their money. Some of my favorite games in childhood were short by today's standards.

I def like games that are really long so I can really delve into the world and immerse myself but that being said the content has to be really really good and not have many points you start feeling like it’s a chore to do certain things. Long games work well for me with RPGs as long as the story and side content is all interesting. Although they may not have the best mechanics Bethesda games are exactly what I need to enjoy long games, I mean I’ve literally played Skyrim like 12 times and fallout 3/4 like 5 times in total between them. Outer worlds didn’t really do it for me tbh, idk what it was but nothing really grabbed me, ended up getting bored through dialogue and missions felt like I was just doing them to get to the end hoping it would be interesting or satisfying, I played for a while and then stopped because I realized I was only playing to pass time. But I get where you are coming from, most game should be on the shorter side, it isn’t easy to make a game interesting and fun enough to be worth having to put in over 20-30 hours to complete it and they better be amazing if you want the player to put 100+ hours in. That being said I can respect someone that likes shorter games, everyone is diff when it comes to gaming, I’m not as into short games just because by the time I really start getting into it and really enjoying it I’ll be half way or almost done and then I’m just left at the end wanting more but most of the time it’s so short that it’s all way to fresh and easy to remember every single second to want to replay it. That’s just me though I love a long, interesting RPG.

All these space rpgs are always missing one or two things to make them perfect. The next game will always fix a few issues then drop the ball on other things. Starfeild, no man’s sky and outer worlds staff all need to combine their resources and create the perfect space rpg
@badger_ninja8681
@badger_ninja8681 Жыл бұрын
The reason for that is compromises must be made. developers make those choices constantly. Is it worth the resources? Does it affect stability? How much does it affect system requirements? Does it improve player experience? Is the game engine built to do this thing? Every choice comes with a trade off and is deliberately made with a vision in mind. Putting multiple groups with different ideologies on how to make games together is a recipe for a bad game

One thing I hate about OW is that, the final stage is suddenly a lot more difficult than any other stage, and by difficult I mean enemies being bullet sponges and are able to one or two shot you. The game just goes from normal difficulty to extreme tryhard without the player's consent, which is pure lazy design on the developers' part.

God yes, about the small barren maps point. I'm the first to say an open world should serve function, rather than just "look how big we are" but the majority of maps in this game felt linear, and anything outside of quest locations and settlement hubs felt like "oh here, we better just throw a few shiny creatures and dudes in there to be canon fodder". Just felt like really dull shallow level design.

I don't get the whole "outer worlds worlds having slightly better combat compared to fallout 4" conclusion you lead woth without any real explanation, tbh it couldn't feel more the oposite because after 3 playthroughs I can attest to the fact that the outworlds shooting mechanics are so bland they make weapons just as forgettable as the factions with a gun play more on par with old titles like fallout 3 and not even high enough to tickle the balls of fallout 4. Before people say I'm a bethesda fanboy I think 100% of people being hyped for starfield are wrong, it soul suckingly unispired, no alien/robot booty having, cardboard box looking, milktoast inofensive drivell that somehow looks even less appealing then no man sky

Most of what you said on your list of TOW being a shadow game: (gameplay,locations,aesthetic, characters, factions) can be said for most of bethesda's rpgs as well. The saving grace of this game is that it's more of an rpg with more branching story paths, options to actually side with the baddies, or just kill everyone. I can't say the same for most of bethesda titles. To me, that kind of does make this a bethesda kilker. The outer worlds do rpg content better, which should be the most important part of a bethesda rpg game.
