I hoped you enjoyed the new style I’ve gone with for this video. While it’s certainly not something I’ve invented, it’s a style I’ve been testing out and tinkering with for almost a year now. After doing a test scene with this style in October 2023 and posting it to my Patreon with positive feedback, I decided to try doing it with a “full” video for the KZbin channel. An excerpt from my Patreon post explaining why I decided to test this style out is below: In essence, I'm trying to develop a style that allows me to still tell stories in an engaging way using audio and visuals, while lowering the time and cost of production. Here, I'm rendering out separate elements as stills and then doing a 3D camera move in After Effects in order to give the still renders some life. Without having to fully animate character scenes and letting the voice acting do the work, I can do things faster and tell more stories. I'd still like to have fully animated segments for things such as space battles, and this is one test of many in order to try and blend those different styles together so that it isn't distracting. Some might wonder why I decided to go down this path, since I already released something that was fully animated. While I'm proud of the work I did on Ambush at Derra IV, it was an incredibly taxing and slow process. Having everything be fully animated would be the goal, but ultimately, I don't have the time or resources to animate all of the stories I want to tell. So, this is one way I could potentially do that.

I *LOVE IT* When people let Star Wars embrace it's Wild West influence. I've never been as big a fan of the Jedi-Force-Destiny racket as I am about stories about outlaw smugglers, bounty hunters and lawmen, folks just trying to survive in the Outer Rim where the Republic and Empire can't be bothered.
@starwarsunfiltered78482 ай бұрын
I like all of it, but yeah...I prefer the books, games, and comics about the "grunts." All the criminal stuff, for sure, plus spies, soldiers, pilots. The X-wing series and Dark Forces (original) were among my favorite games, so I get kind of irritated when the Jedi power-fantasy stuff keeps getting trotted out for the casuals.

Sound design, shot composition, timing, set design, character design, etc. The new format was a bit odd at first, but after a minute it's easy to get used to, and fits the space western genre of this story. Would love to see more of the ranger in the future! As a side note, thank you for showing the Y-wing some love. One of my favorite SW ships, right up there with the LAAT. Super amazing work as always!

Honestly love the motion comic/slideshow-esque animation style of the on-foot segments. They convey a simplicity and speed of motion, coupled with a focus on consistent composition and quality art direction, that CGI animations can often have a difficult time replicating. The standoff and firefight are both sublime in their tension and simplicity, keeping right to-the-point with a setup and punchline delivered flawlessly, and the animation carries the weight of the scene beautifully. I'd love to see more short stories using this kind of animation. It just feels special.

style is good, it's my understanding that animating characters walking and subtle movements is both time consuming and laborious. my only critique (and I'm no expert on anything so take it however you like) is that it's slightly jarring to go from smooth ship flight to the more motion comic style (moving from key frame to key frame) especially when the two are happening in the same frame. but I also understand wanting the flight of ships to be smooth so I really can't offer any alternative to the choices you made.

My brother in Christ, Mandalorian and BOBF have done pretty much this exact scene shot for shot like half a dozen times now. @dlein932 ай бұрын
@@Demetrius900000 what Disney did and does truly is no worse than what Lucas himself did. It is beyond time for this corner of the fandom to admit that not a whole lot has changed with the franchise--a lot of fun, beautiful production work too often undermined by shoddy writing and direction, supplemented by EU materials of varying quality that only a fraction of the fandom will ever consume, all for the enrichment of a multibillion-dollar corporation. Sure the ownership and some lore/storylines have changed, and it's fine to not like all of those changes. I certainly don't, but I've never loved every creative decision made in the property, so picking and choosing is nothing new. Star Wars is still fun to consume, but only if you don't take it or your love of it so damn seriously that you refer to changes to it with terms like "wound."
@Demetrius9000002 ай бұрын
@@dlein93 it was a huge part of my childhood, I picked and chose for sure, but mostly I enjoyed everything and it grew with me. And then everything changed so much that I feel like literally a part of me is missing, and people are happy about it somehow. Basically I understand what you're saying and agree logically, but in my heart I disagree and hate Disney for ruining what I loved.
@dlein932 ай бұрын
@@Demetrius900000 with all due respect my friend, I find being so personally invested in one of the most successful all-ages media franchises ever to the degree that changes to it make you "feel like literally a part of [you] is missing" to be unhealthy. Disney didn't ruin what you love, it just archived some of it. Lucas' 6 films and TCW remain at the heart of canon, and most everything from Legends can still be easily accessed via Disney+, Marvel Unlimited, Kindle/Audible/reprints, or the remasters of old games. If you don't like some of the new stuff, the old stuff is right there for you, but the new stuff also brings in more fans too, most of them kids just like we were when we first fell in love with the franchise. The incessant whining of grown adults acting like their childhoods were scrubbed from the internet does not make for a warm welcome into the fandom, and if y'all really want Star Wars to stay alive then it is high time to get over yourselves and stop acting like Kathleen Kennedy travelled back in time to burn your toys.

On the whole I loved seeing this Sky, I only have one minor gripe that leans on the more pedantic side if I'm being honest. The rifle used by the woman towards the end is a slugthrower, so it'd make sense to hear something closer to a musket than a blaster. The model itself is based on the Tusken weapons from Phantom Menace, which were themselves inspired by Bedouin matchlocks and percussion cap rifles irl. Like I said, pedantic, but it's nice to see you branching out narratively from purely ship-based battles (though tbh that was what first drew me in to your content, since there are so few people willing to do space-centric skirmishes or battles).
