Yeah Zoomer'ette "Too Jam band for you" To get it..? Well first you'd need a span of attention longer than 3 minutes, And be able to understand Non Auto-Tuned, Not Pitch-Adjusted, Nor Time Aligned, Music. So your best bet is just hang with the top 40 whatever that is these days.

The guitar break by Hughie is just phenomenal. It still amazes me to this day. I believe Hughie used a lot of bluegrass scales and techniques in his playing which distinguished him as a guitarist. When you hear him play, you know its Thomasson.

To react to the best live version of this song, you will need to listen to the cut from their album 'Bring it back alive' (released 1978) which is just over 20 minutes. As a 68 y/o retired musician and a southern rock aficionado, I can assure you will see all the blazing guitar work and action from no less than TWO drummers in this classic southern rock anthem. There will be a lot going on so give yourself enough time to take it all in.

I've got one for you that will blow your freaking mind. A jazz group called Focus decided to try to perform a rock song. There are lots of vocals but no lyrics. The drums and lead guitar are awesome! It contains elements of yodeling and whistling and this song topped the charts in the early seventies. Try it, you'll like it!

I feel like their first two albums are the best. I hope you have heard the album Hughie released as a solo effort of sorts. I think it came out in 2007. You have to hunt for it as there was a lot of legal issues with it. "Once An Outlaw" is the title. It sounds like it could be stuff off their first two albums. Its really quite amazing. It just shows that Hughie was the core, heart of the band.

You probably heard "There Goes Another Love Song" or their version of "Ghost Riders In The Sky" They have an album a year from '75 to '80, skipped 81, 2 in 82 then became more sporadic. Their two most recent albums were in 2012 and 2016 and they are still on tour. Jan 25th they will be in New Brunswick NJ WITH the Marshall Tucker band...May have to go see that one! speaking of the Marshall Tucker Band I am making a request for "Fire on the Mountain" I think you'd enjoy that one. The Outlaws were a 1970's southern rock band from Tampa, Fl. Their debut album by the same name was in 1975 which this song was on. They actually opened for Lynyrd Skynyrd a time or two, and although their dueling guitars influences were similar to LS, their approach was more similar to the Eagles and Poco emphasizing vocal harmonies among the band members, whereas LS relied on a single lead singer. They are still performing with one original member and their latest album was released in 2020.

I would imagine they are great live, I don't know if there is a live version on here or not. I should have looked! It was recorded in 1975 apparently. The drums were so much more free back in those recording days, a lot now are robotic aren't they, or indeed drum machines, so much better when it feels 'live'. A lot of bands did record live back then too, no idea if they did but it does sound like it. I chanced on this on a station here called Planet Rock when driving and the song kept going and going and I kept bouncing. lol The DJ was Alice Cooper as well so he was obviously a fan. I was just lucky that I have a digital radio and so got the name of the band otherwise I'd have never known who it was by.

The Outlaws from Tampa are my favorite of all time. And they are certainly the most underrated band of all time. Original guitarist vocalist Hughie Thomasson commented once they wanted to sing like the Eagles and play like the Outlaws. They certainly accomplished that with their three and four part harmonies being a mainstay of their sound. And Hughie Thomasson and Billy Jones were no doubt guitar Masters. Original singer / rythym guitarist Henry Paul (Henry Paul Band and Blackhawk) reformed the band in 2008 after the death of Hughie Thomasson in 2006. With both old and new members, Henry did a hell of a job reforming the band and their later stuff certainly compliments the early stuff. Their third album Hurry Sundown, the last album before Henry Paul left the first time, is a masterpiece. Check it out along with the rest of their discography. Long live southern rock and the Outlaws!
@DavidPurvis-l9p
@DavidPurvis-l9p 6 ай бұрын
Addendum: What gets me is the fact that nowhere will you find Huey Thomasson or Billy Jones, or any member of the Outlaws on any top 100 list of great guitarist, or even a list of top 100 bands. What a travesty. Names like Chris Anderson, Billy Crain, Steve Grisham, Dale Oliver, and Freddie Salem should all be in at least the top 50 or better. Not to mention they're great drummers and bassists. From the playing and singing, to the writing and production/engineering, the Outlaws were/are a phenomenal, top notch rock n roll band. They have to be the most underrated band in history. Too bad the mainstream never saw it. I will never get it. God bless them all.

I do believe Hendrix would jump from His Grave and Jammed to Country Rock with this Band. I saw the Title and flashed back to the Stone's High Tides and Green Grass 1964 and the Guitar Snapped Me back to this World. I was 7 and asked My Older Brother Why the Stones Faces looked so Weird. He says LSD and it makes Your Face White and Your Pupils the Size of Saucers. I focused on that Picture through the rest of the 60's seeing the Face in Public all Over the Place.
