This film was one for the book and was action packed from start to finish. You all know that I am a huge fan of Military movies and I must say this was definitely a great film. The men displayed phenomenal leadership and fortitude which you know I live by. As a watched the soldiers consistently fight off hundreds while being outgun and out man in the valley kept me on the edge of my sit and emotionally invested..I absolutely loved this film and Thank you all for recommended it .

Devin! I am the director of THE OUTPOST. I am absolutely stunned that you did this. It was a blast watching you react to this film that we all made with so much respect and love. I am a veteran myself. Obviously, there are spoilers here out the ass - but I assume most people watching thi are also people who have seen the film.- Rod Lurie

Thank you for making this film. It is one of the very very few films that have been made about GWOT that isn't entirely full of garbage clichés and terrible interactions between the Soldiers. This Iraqistan vet approves.

Just one more thing - your reactions were beautiful and sincere. It is the same reaction we are getting from vets from many wars. I just wanted to see your reaction if you'd continued watching when we did a memorial to the real men from the battle. Anyway, this film was made for all of our brothers and sisters in arms.

How were you and Jacob Scipio (Gallegos) able to convince legit soldiers and vets that he was the real deal? I spotted Larson and Rodiguez as legit right away and i had a good hunch on a few other guys, but I was 100% sure Gallegos was a tech-advisor or something. The man is from London...thats just amazing. You guys fooled Green Berets...that rarely happens. Salute o7

Glad to see you on this, I was in Afghanistan at this time just not at Camp Keaton! Thank God! That was really rough! This is one of the most accurate war Movies I have ever seen. Edit..... A lot of our heavy equipment will be lost in conflicts like this, I have seen them Disassemble Tanks, Crawlers and other weapons and simply bury them because it is less expensive than bringing it back. Losing the truck was no big deal however losing the men was huge! These men were running on pure adrenaline, they were locked into fight or flight mode the only thing that matters in this situation is your trust in God, None of these men can dodge a bullet but they were so exposed that it almost didn’t matter where they were located, They could only move forward. I agree that falling into “Alamo” would have been a mistake that may have led to a slaughter and I believe that these men did the right thing. I am not old enough to know much about Vietnam however that would have been the “Ultimate Nightmare” for many soldiers. I served 23 years and I would not have traded places with these men, The Medal of Honor is the highest honor a soldier can get and It also comes with great benefits but honestly I was never “Medal of Honor” material, Some guys just react so much better than others when put into this position. I don’t regret my time spent in the U.S. Armed forces, to be honest I am grateful that I was allowed to serve my country as an enlisted soldier.

It would be interesting to see you react to an actual documentary called Restrepo. It’s about a situation very similar to this film. It’s about a group of soldiers who serve in this area deep in the Korengal Valley in Afghanistan, probably the most dangerous area in the whole country. They would get shot at every day. One of the best military documentaries I’ve ever seen.

I was with the first group in that place in 06’. 43 of us total and the only way in at the time was by helicopter. Mountains were right on top of us and so was the enemy. Horrible spot to build a camp and 3 years later when they had the major battle it was completely destroyed. Keatings vehicle flipped into the valley in 06’ and they named the camp after him after that.

I remember Jake Tapper talking about his book on which this film is based and saying that it was a story that people needed to know about. I was an incredible defense against an overwhelming force in what was acknowledged as basically being an indefensible position. There's a reason that castles are built on hills and not in valleys.

When we were training to deploy in 2012 we did VR simulations of this battle and others that had gone horribly wrong yet still ended in partial victories. Even with the clunky headsets and blocky video game graphics, it was harrowing just knowing it actually took place and we were reliving it. That outpost was a mistake and they probably never should've been there, but there's also an arrogance to the US because we always do win in the end, even if we take casualties. These type of events also opened the door up a bit on the whole "alamo" doctrine as not always being the best idea.

As a military veteran I totally respect you and your reaction. Your insight and compassionate is inspiring. We are both aware that when we took our oath of allegiance to this country and “ALL” it’s people, all races stood side by side to defend and defeat our adversaries both foreign and domestic. I was in the Army in the mid 60’s. Old white guy here, we will always be brothers in arms, love you brother. Our children have lost their way, thanks to the greedy politicians and big tech, that are supporting destroying America and it’s people. Their goal is to establish a Socialist, Marxist, Communist, country. Woke Generation wants to destroy our history good and bad. We are living in very dangerous times. In Arrington National Cemetery in Wash DC, the real American heroes sleep. Across this Nation and the world. May God help us. These degenerates are brainwashed, propagandized, and manipulated, by their evil Commie handlers throughout our society. I’ll get off my soapbox now and just say it is a pleasure to hear someone that is a clear thinker and truth teller, instead of all these sheeple. Please keep up your excellent work. Thank you very much and God bless you and your family.

I believe one of the guys replied to "Is this thing working?" with "The army made it so nope" or something to that effect. I've gotten the impression that a lot of servicemen feel that way about military issued equipment lol "I don't trust this shit." For good reason. As I understand it, they'd attack, we'd give them 500 bucks for them to hand us their rusty 100 dollar AK, and they'd go and buy five more. Boward? More like Blowhard. Fuck that guy. It should be noted that while most of the ANA ran, some did stay. They deserved to be recognized for their integrity. I can't remember if it's mentioned but that B-1 was dropping 2,000 pounders. That's a lot of hurt. Carter is the best "character" in the movie. You can tell the guys don't like him but when the shit touches off, even though you can tell he's scared more shitless than most, he still does everything he can. Plus when talking to the therapist, even being the emotional wreck he is, he still gets out that she's cute. That's my boy lol

You might like "Danger Close" about an Australian unit in the Vietnam War. It has a similar vibe to this movie in many ways. The PID rules were part of the rules of engagement. A lot of that came from McChrystal. A very poor choice of officer, a "Perfumed Prince" more worried about his image than getting the job done. He took a good opportunity and ruined it trying to make himself look good. Finding that ID smelled like a trap to me. Too easy to find it and it was someone known. They could well have been planning to ambush whoever went looking for him and then hit the relief units as well, a classic guerrilla tactic, or maybe even hit the base when it was shorthanded. Lastlt, if they hand bothered to study the Russian experience they would have understood not only the tactics better but not been surprised when the ANA ran. Under the Russians it was not uncommon for locals to come get trained and equipped and then vanish to the other side, before or during combat. Changing sides or running away was a way things were done there. "The Bear Went Over the Mountain" and one or two others should have been required reading.

john wayne is dead. those of us of a certain age grew up with some pretty ridiculous war 'plots' (usually/inevitably including a flashback or liaison with a girlfriend/nurse/native) extolling the glory of exaggerated heroics. even the ones who were actually there and wanted to tell the truth, like Sam Fuller, weren't allowed to because the studios determined that audiences wouldn't buy tickets to reality. now, finally, film makers have discovered that nothing but the truth is needed for all the drama and heroics an audience deserves...and an audience that hasn't caught on to that, that still wants a happy-ending war fantasy, doesn't deserve a film as good as this.

Keep up the good job on the reviews, great content. As a Vet you may appreciate this music video from a Canadian band called "The Trews" a song made for our troops. Check it out when you have a minute or would be a great reaction video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6POmIlrl9FqobM
