It's good those old mills are being used for something. Very interesting.

You should see the old lane mill that’s about 500 meters away. You go from dean clough with all its rejuvenation to seeing what it could have ended up as if it had been abandoned

Fascinating amount of history in such a small area, great work with the research Ashton.

Im so glad you have done this area as its always had my interest, i would love to see the old Crossley mill tunnel and slope dug back out again.

@@octopus680 ah is that on the maps ?? Sounds interesting that tunnel ?😃

The "Stones" on the large scale plans are a line of marker stones to show the line of the north edge of the tunnel underneath. Presumably they didn't want either excessive loading or digging above the tunnel arch.

This is great. I've been trying to figure out the route past Dean Clough and this is very helpful. That railway line would have made a great cycleway.

@@howler95uk thank you ! Yes it would have made a good route. ! I’ve done two more parts before this of you havnt seen them 😀

The north end of lee bank tunnel is still there, it is fully bricked up. I visited it a few years back you can get to it from old lane by going down next to the rail bridge, it is very hard to get to due to the foliage and trees but when the porthole suddenly appears through the trees is worth the struggle getting to it

@@rickkey5463 thanks man ! I’ve been in Lee Bank about 4 or 5 times myself to show other explorers I’ve done a separate video on it if you search on the channel However guan reboot it in the next episode of this series ! 😃

Brilliant video. I have lived in Halifax all my life (67 years), some of my family members worked for Crossleys carpets and I remember the railway line, although I never saw it in action.

Yet another well-researched account of part of this fascinating white elephant of a railway line built during the railway mania in the nineteenth century.

Enjoyed that mate. Im the lad you met outside the boxing gym, who was inspecting the old culvert. Im guessing where we were stood, where my van was parked, was the old track bed of this line? Either way i enjoyed it. I have recently done an inspection of the culverted river that runs beneath the North Bridge and Sainsbury's. Shame i hadnt met you before, you could have come and had a look at that one.

Great stuff again! I never knew where was a small viaduct until your videos. I just thought there were two seperate small tunnels near dean clough.

Thanks man ! Yeah If you look at old side by side map viewer it’s really good as it shows where lines were and tunnels / viaducts etc so you can trace with the current map where things may have been demolished 😀
